     Cora Cremonia Martin was born on 21 February 1849 at Randolph County, Georgia.4,2,5,6 She was the daughter of James Hiram Martin Sr. and Martha Loucretia Reddish.3,1,2 Cora Cremonia Martin married Ransom Newton Duke I on 7 September 1865 at At the Martin Home, near Robeline, Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana.4,2,5,7 Cora Cremonia Martin died on 22 June 1935 at Jena, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, at age 86.4,8,9 She was buried after 22 June 1935 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Rhinehart, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana.9,4,8
     Cora Cremonia was five years old when
the Martin's left "Jawja" for their new home in Louisiana and could remember some things about the trip. When they wen aboard the steamboat one of Cora's older sisters saw a young woman wearing a dress identical to her own. She was surprised, but remembered her manners, and curtsied politely. Everyone laughed, and she realized she was curtsying to her own reflection in a large mirror. She tried to remain poised, and remarked solemnly, "That is no laughing mater!" It became a family joke, when someone did something a little silly, to say gravely, "That is nolaughing matter!"10      She was baptized in the LDS church at DA. She received her endowment at DA.
