Carswell was a devoted student of Carswell family history over the years and was a ever helpful and gracious correspondent with those who wanted to learn about the history of their family. Her letters, mimeographed excerpts from a paper she prepared a few years ago, and her "History of the Descendants of Alexander Carswell and His Youngest Son Matthew Carswell" have been useful to many doing research on the family.¹
