     Samuel A. Hargis was born on 24 February 1867 at Battle Creek, Tennessee.¹ He was the son of William Lee Hargis and Elisabeth Richardson.¹

     Samuel Bailey Hargis was born on 22 October 1822 at Bent, Pulaski County, Kentucky.³ He was the son of Abraham Hargis and Susannah Price.² Samuel Bailey Hargis married Elizabeth W. Whitaker on 4 February 1846 at Pulaski County, Kentucky.³ Samuel Bailey Hargis died in 1880 at John Dan Hollow, Pulaski County, Kentucky.⁴ He was buried in 1880 at Whetstone Cemetery, Pulaski County, Kentucky.⁴
     Samuel Bailey and Elizabeth lived at various places in the Ula Community of Pulaski Co., KY ; namely, the Matt Phelps Place, the Hargis Place, and the John Daniel Hollow Place, where h e died. He had a wide reputation as a weather prophet and many people consulted him for info rmation on the weather. According to legend, he studied the sky, stars, etc. as the source s of his information.

This Indenture of bargain sale and conveyance made and entered unto this
26th day of February 1849 between Daniel Stockdill and Sarah his wife of
the County of Pulaski State of Ky of the first part and Abraham Whitson of
the County and State aforesaid of the second part Witnesseth that for and
inconsideration of two hundred dollars part paid in money and part in other
lands, to them in hand paid The said Daniel Stocksdill and Sarah his wife
have bargained and sold and by these presents do grant alein enfeoff convey
and confirm unto the said Abraham Whitson his heirs or assigns forever two
certain tracts or parcels of Land situate lying and being in the County and
