Martin Van Buren Hargis was born on 30 September 1839 at Howard County, Maryland.¹ He was the son of Isaac Hargis and Elizabeth Reed.¹ Martin Van Buren Hargis married Sara Jane Fisher on 18 August 1859.¹ Martin Van Buren Hargis died on 23 February 1908 at Troy, Kansas, at age 68.¹
