     William was born on Tuesday, August 21, 1821 in Smyrna, Rutherford Co., Tennessee, USA. He was the son of William Barksdale and Nancy Harvey Lester. William died on Friday, July 3, 1863 in Gettysburg, Adams Co., Pennsylvania, USA, at age 41 years, 10 months and 12 days. His body was interred after July 3, 1863 in Greenwood Cemetery, Jackson, Hinds Co., Mississippi, USA.
     He was in the 33rd, 34th, and 35th congress when Mississippi seceded from the Union. He was elected Colonel and promoted for gallantry on the field of battle. He fell at Gettysberg in July 1863. He is buried at Columbus, Ms. He served as an officer in the military 1863 in Gettysburg, Adams Co., Pennsylvania, USA.
