From Inquiry to the Who’s Your Hoosier Ancestor
column which appeared in the "Indianpolis Times" about 1964:
"Q-439 Heron-Rardin: I need names of parents of Rebecca (Herron) Rardin who
died about 1885 in Fountain Co., Indiana. Would like proof that Moses was
descended from John Rardin, who came from Ireland to Pennsylvania in the early
1770s. Mrs. Robert Smith, 110 North Grace Avenue, Crawfordsville, Indiana 47933.
Answer: Rebecca Herron born about 1807 in Pennsylvania was probably daughter of
John and Rebecca Clark Herron, natives of Ireland to Lancaster County,
Pennsylvania. Moses Rardin born about 1803 in Kentucky is probably son of
Timothy Rardin, who went from Kentucky to Clermont County, Ohio to Clay County,
Indiana. The 1820 census of Clermont County shows that Timothy had six sons. The
Clay County History names only five. It is possible that Moses is the sixth. I
can give no "proof". I find no death certificates for either Moses or
Rebecca."

Will of Timothy Rardin:
In the name of God Amen!!
I Timothy Rardin, of the County of Clermont, and State of Ohio, considering the
uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound mind and memory, do make,
constitute, and publish this, my last will and testement, in manner and form as
follows: That is to say - First; that if my beloved wife Elizabeth Rardin should
outlive me, then in that case, I give and bequeath unto my beloved Elizabeth
Rardin a good and sufficient living which I authorize and empower my executor to
provide and furnish her, so long as she lives. I also authorize and empower my
executor to compromise, adjust, release, and discharge, in such manner as he may
deem proper and best, the debts and claims due to me. I do also if my wife lives
longer than I do, in the case, if my executor choose, he may maintain my said
wife, and pay taxes of my farm, which which he may have said farm without any
other rent so long as my said wife does live. I do also after the death of my
wife, authorize my executor, to sell my lands in any way he may think best, in
lots or in any way to accommodate purchasers, and to make a deed or deeds as the
case may be to the purchaser or purchasers and acknowledge and execute according
to law. I do appoint and constitute my son, Jonathon Rardin my executor of this
my last will, but if he should or in any way be incapable of attending to
business, then in that case, I appoint my son, James Rardin in his place to do
and perform the same that my son, Jonathan Rardin is authorized to do. I do
also authorize my executor to sell all my personal property, excepting one bay
horse colt, which was foaled the 27th day of May last, which colt I give to my
son Jonathan's son, Timothy. After the real and personal property is sold, and
the money collected and my debts paid, then my executor is to pay my son David's
children, Permelia, Sarah, Jane, Mary, and Nelson, fifty dollars each, and also
to pay my daughter Mary's children, Patia Ann, Permilia, Violet, Jesse, Mary and
Timothy if he ever returns to Clermont County, Fifty dollars each. My executor
is then to divide the balance of the money equally between my sons William,
Moses, James, Timothy, George, and Jonathan. James has had a young mare which is
to be deducted out of his share, at fifty dollars. I hereby revoke all former
wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this
16th day of August, Eighteen Hundred and Fifty Six. In presence of: James
Rardin, Francis Ferguson, Joseph Ferguson. Timothy Rardin (Seal). [will proved
