James was born 1893 in South Carolina.
His Father was George Washington Raines ,Mothers name unknown. but they were listed on the 1840 census of Walker Co Ala as ages bt 70-80 . they were living with his single Brother, Robert who was born 1786 in Sc and died in Walker Co Ala bt 1850-60. The Parents died bt 1840-50 in Walker Co ala. Robert signed the 1840 Walker Co Tax List as Agent for his Father George
The earliest record i have on James is his 1st Marriage on Oct 6 1818 in Lawrence co Ala to Milla Barton.
She was born in 1803 in Sc and was the dau of Moses and Fannie Barton.
By 1822 they were in Walker co Ala and remained there all their lives.
Their children were born bt 1819-1841 in Ala. they were :

[3] Margaret Ann [Peggy] married William Washington Abbott
[4] Massa J. Married James B. Mullns
[5] Milla no record found after 1850 . she was still single then

[7] Allen Married Lucinda Robbins
[8] Hiram married 1st Phoebe???2nd Aseneth Adeline Abbott
[9] James Jr. married Sarah Best
Milla died 1843 in Walker co and is buried in he Sardis Cem there.
James Married again in 1851 to Susan??maiden name unknown . but on the 1860 census her son John [born 1845] in listed as a Raines instead of his correct surname.
James and Susan had 3 children
[1] Sinthia married Robert Williams
[2] Luyvenia married John Newton Pate
[3] Lucinda Married William Best.
James died in the early 1870s in Walker co . and i have not found Susan after his death ,as she was only in her 40s she must have remarried. drainessutton@juno.com
