Mrs. Margaret C. Stone, age 86 of Jasper, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Mountainside Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carter Stone, and two sons, Tommy and Billy Jo. Survivors include sons, Jack and Elbert Stone, both of Jasper, and Robert Stone, Calhoun; daughters, Ruby Duckett, Susie Young, Mary Palmer and Bonnie Palmer, all of Jasper, Sandy Rafferty, Kennesaw, and Marjorie McDaniel, Ellijay. Twenty-two grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren also survive. The funeral service was held Saturday, March 6 at 2 p.m. from the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Harold Cantrell and Jerry Banks officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Merrick Palmer, Barry Bannister, Scott and Billy Stone, Shane Nelson and Junior Martin. George Ellsworth, age 89, of Cumming, GA, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2007. Survivors include daughter, Nancy Yates; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sandy Raffety; granddaughter, Sherri Raffety Hale; grandson, Shane Raffety; 4 great-grandchildren; nephew, Robert Richie; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. George Washington Raffety was born December 10, 1865, in Howell County, Mo., and passed away October 21, 1952, at the age of 86 years, 10 months, 11 days at a hospital in Cushing where he had been since receiving a broken hip in an auto collision October 5. In 1887 he was married to Lorena Inman and to this union was born four boys and three girls. D. E. Raffety, Smartsville, Calif.; C. E. Raffety, Indo, Calif.; L. E. Raffety, Carter Nine, Okla.; and E. L. Raffety, Ralston, Mrs. Orville Combs, Marysville, Calif.; Mrs. Ray Kemp, Ada, Okla.; and Mrs. H. C. Cook, Shawnee, Okla. In 1908 he brought his family to Oklahoma. His wife passed away in 1916. He came to Ralston from Cushing about nine years ago. Funeral services were held at the Davis Funeral Home in Cushing, Thursday, October 23. He was buried beside his wife at Joplin, Mo. on Friday. Besides the sons and daughters he leaves to mourn his passing 34 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, a brother A. E. Raffety, Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. Mary Rookstool, Springfield, Mo. Those from Ralston who attended the funeral for Mr. Raffety Thursday were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Queen, Mrs. Henry Robinson, Mrs. Joe Henkel, and Mrs. J. R. Welker. Mrs. Lorena Raffety, 46 years old, died at her home, No. 1210 North Street, at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She is survived by a husband, five sons and three daughters. John Doub (originally Johannes Doub) was born near Cologne, Germany. Birth: Mar. 27, 1742, Germany Death: Oct. 18, 1813 North Carolina, USA He came to America in 1763 aboard the vessel, "Richmond". He lived for a while in Pennsylvania before coming to North Carolina, near Bethania, where he worked as a tanner. He married Mary Eve Spainhour around 1780. They were the parents of 9 children: John, Henry, William, Jacob, Joseph C., Mary Elizabeth, Michael, Mary Eve, and Peter Doub. John and Mary were very religious and in 1789, John was greatly impressed with the preaching of a Methodist circuit riding preacher named Andrew Yeargin. He opened his home for meetings of a Methodist class and it grew into a congregation. In 1802, John was ordained a minister himself. Also that year, a large shed was built to accommodate the congregation. Obituary: John Wesley Daub was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina, May 3, 1849. Departed this life on October 17, 1933, at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 14 days. He was the son of Reverend Dave and Ruhama Daub. He was married to Mary Henrietta Pfaff on December 10, 1876. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Walter Skaer of Augusta; Mrs. Clifford Skaer of Witchita; Frank D. of Augusta, and Charles O. of Gladewater, Texas. When a young man he joined the Moravian church in North Carolina. He came to Kansas in 1877 and settled on a farm near Douglas where he transferred his membership to the Methodist church and remained in that faith till death. After living in Kansas eight years he returned to North Carolina and remained there until 1900. Coming west again he settled on a farm near Augusta where he spent the remainder of his life. Besides his membership in the church he was an honored member of the Masonic lodge. Those who survive, in addition to the four children mentioned above are: his wife, Mary; eight grandchildren; a brother, Charles of Lewisville, NC; a sister, Mrs. Josephine Flint, of Kendrick, Oklahoma. | Obituary: Mrs. Stella Renfro, 67, died at 8:00 a. m. Thursday, January 2 after an illness of ten days. Her death was unexpected, and attributed to a heart attack, as she was suffering from heart trouble and asthma. Stella Flint was born in Augusta, Kansas, on September 24, 1879. She married William Renfro at Chandler, Oklahoma, and the couple moved to Drumright in 1916. They made their home at 225 East Wood Street. In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children, four sons, Reelie of Galveston, Texas, Gayle of Henderson, Texas, Benny of Seminole and Jack of the home address; and two daughters, Mrs. H. B. Richardson of Los Angeles and Mrs. Josephine Hayes of Vinita. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p. m., Sunday, January 5, at the First Baptist church with Rev. Harry Roark officiating. | Obituary: W. A. Flynt, long-time resident, died at the home in Chandler, last Sunday night, aged 78 years. Funeral services were conducted from the First Christian church at 10:30 o’clock, Tuesday morning, by Rev. Goff, assisted by Rev. James Cage, of Davenport, and Rev. Carpenter, of Oklahoma City. Interment was made in Oak Park Cemetery. William A. Flynt was born in Forsyth County, North Carolina on April 10th, 1849. His death came on the 87th anniversary of his birth. He was one of thirteen children. Shortly after the close of the civil war he moved, with his parents, to Indiana, where he resided until 1880, at which time he moved to Augusta, Kansas. He moved to Lincoln County, Oklahoma, in 1891 locating upon a farm near Kendrick, but moved to Chandler shortly after, where he has since resided. At Lyndon, Kansas, on October 19, 1882, he was united in marriage to Miss Laura Denton. To this union five children were born, two girls and three boys. Once of the girls, Tula, died in infancy, the others all reside in Chandler, and were constantly with their mother, at the bedside of the father all during his last illness. They are Mrs. Ross J. Tharp, Earnest A. Ginty E. and Elmo D. Deceased was a member of the First Christian church and of the A. H. T. A. As a church member he lived a conscientious, Christian life. As a member of the A. H. T. A. he was held in the highest esteem by every member who knew him and, for years, served upon the executive board. As a citizen he was universally loved and respected. Revs Goff, Cage and Carpenter each paid a glowing, and richly deserved, tribute to his memory. The funeral was largely attended and the floral offerings numerous and very beautiful, mute testimony of the great love and esteem in which he was held by his fellow citizens. Besides the wife and four children, deceased is survived by one brother, Phil., of Chandler; and a number of other relatives in North Carolina and Missouri. Phil. Mr. Melvin Edward Palmer, age 52 of Jasper, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Palmer of Jasper; son, Merrick Palmer of Ellijay; daughter, Rose Ann Nelson of Jasper; and grandchildren, Cody, Dylan and Kaylin Nelson. Mr. Palmer was preceded in death by his daughter, Amanda Palmer; brother, Harold Palmer; and granddaughter, Shannen Palmer. Mr. Leon Lee Mulkey, age 80 of Talking Rock, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2009 at his residence. Survivors include his brothers, Coy and Albert Mulkey, both of Ludville, and Ed Mulkey, Ranger; and sisters, Tamer Young, Ranger, and Betty Childers, Jerusalem Community. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Mulkey was preceded in death by his wife, Dimple Mulkey. The funeral service as held Saturday, Jan. 31 at 2 p.m. from Black Knob Baptist Church with the Revs. Stanley and Randy Mulkey officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were: Bo, Timothy and James Hightower, Bo Townsend, David Chastain and Randy Fields. Honorary pallbearer was Teddy Scoggins. Ralph "Wayne" Raffety, Cushing resident, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 in the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 88 years. The son of the late Steve Roy Raffety and Gay Robb Raffety, Wayne was born on June 21, 1921 in Cushing and was raised by his father and step-mother, Evelyn. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1939, after 12 years of perfect attendance. Wayne was united in marriage to Dolores Fisher on October 23, 1946 in Winfield, KS and to this union two children, Marilyn and Phyllis, were born. He served in the United States Army Air Corp as an air traffic controller, and was recognized by the President of The United States for his services. His job in the oilfields led him to Texas where he owned and operated a tank cleaning business. After retirement he moved back to Cushing, where he owned and operated the Outback, as he was never ready to retire. He enjoyed working until recent years. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family and visiting with friends. Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Dolores, of the home; two daughters, Marilyn Pendleton and her husband Pete of Idaho and Phyllis Towry Martin and her husband Allan of Cushing; five grandchildren, Melissa and Wesley Pendleton, C.W., Stephen Towry and William and Rachelle Towry; 4 great-grandchildren, Jordan, Kyle and William Pendleton and Kayla Towry, and other relatives and friends. In addition to his parent and step-mother, he was preceded in death by one sister Ola Bryant. Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. in the Fairlawn Cemetery with Pastor Kevin Clouse officiating. Earl R. 'Doc' Todd, 81, of the Big Creek community, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home in Laurel, with burial in Todd Cemetery in the Big Creek community. The Rev. Don Brown will officiate. A cattle farmer, he was a Baptist and retired from the United States Army after serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Judith Todd of Cookeville, Tenn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Ginny and Charles Kellum of Soso; two sisters, Myrtis Jefcoat and Etta Faye Hill, both of Soso; seven grandchildren, Jeremy Kellum, Matthew Kellum, Kristy Corey, Heather Crumpton, Alan Strickland, Lacey Blakeney and April Todd; and seven great-grandchildren. Johnson, was born June 9, 1909, at Summersville. He died July 8, 1994, at Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. A retired livestock farmer, he had been a resident of Houston House. He married Bernice Marie Edgmond in 1934 at Houston. They had seven children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice in 1992; one son, James; a daughter, Geraldean; two brothers, Edgar Lee and Gurn; and five sisters. Myrtle, Mattie, Elvie, Velma and Bertha. Surviving are two sons, Edward Johnson of Hartshorn and Billy Joe Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa: three daughters, Evelyn and Linda Sue Kingery of Des Moines, Iowa, and Helen Jean Cord of Grimes, Iowa; one brother, Marshall Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Beulah Naney of California; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grand-children. Johnson, was born in Cabool on June 21, 1905, and died Dec. 31 in Houston. She was married to Hardy Ireland on February 26, 1923 at Houston. The couple had three children. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church, Summersville. She had made her home in Cabool and moved to Mountain Grove in 1966. Survivors are two sons, Chelmer Ireland of Aurora; Chloe Ireland of Springfield; a daughter, Naomie Ice of Ballwin; two brothers, Marshall Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa and Jim Johnson, address unknown; three sisters, Bertha Williams and Elva Williams both of Des Moines and Beulah Nancy of Escalon, Calif. Willard Chloe Ireland, 68, son of Hardy and Mattie Johnson Ireland, was born Jan. 15, 1937, at Summersville. He died Aug. 27, 2005, at Lester E. Cox Medical Center South emergency room in Springfield. Mr. Ireland served in the U.S. Army several years. He worked for Dryer Williams Shoe Store and operated a food brokerage company, C and B Sales in Springfield until his retirement. A resident of Springfield, he was saved and baptized at a young age and attended Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are two children, Willard A. Ireland and Jennifer Green of Clever; two siblings, Chelmer Ireland of Greenfield and Naomi Joyce Ice of Houston; and two grandchildren. Services were Aug. 31 at the Walnut Lawn Funeral Chapel in Springfield with the Rev. James Montgomery officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Mountain Grove.
