The Davies's
John Davies (b.~1835) and Sarah Davies (nee Tudor) lived in Trefonen (near Oswestry, Shropshire). John worked as a Coal Miner and they had two daughters, Mary (b. 29/2/1864) and Hannah (b. ~1867).
Prior to 1870, John and Sarah moved to the nearby village of Nant y Caws. It was there that John Davies died on 12th October 1870 of cancer.
At the time of the census in 1871, Sarah Davies (30, Washerwoman) was living at Sweeney with her daughters. She was still living there at the time of the 1881 census with her daughter Mary (General Servant) and her 9 month old son, Joseph H. Davies. Her other daughter, Hannah (15) was living at a nearby farm where she was working as a Domestic Servant. Shortly after the census was taken, Sarah's eldest daughter Mary married Joseph Martin at St Mary's Catholic Church (Wrexham).
