Rowland Family Marriage
Bonds/Consents
Mildred
Marie Rowland & Joseph Gilmore
Botetourt County, VA November 19, 1805 In
1805, David Rowland and Joseph Gilmore took out a bond for Joseph's
marriage to Milly Rowland.
Some
100 years later, a well known genealogist/historian/author stated in
his oft-quoted book, that
Milly was David Rowland's daughter. In the next 100 years, his statement was copied and generously shared by many who, sadly, did not try to verify the information. Unfortunately, it is a serious error, and could have been prevented by reading the entire bond and attached consent note signed by Milly's father. Milly was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Russell Rowland; David was her brother. |
