It is noteworthy that Seth is listed after the lineage of Cain, which culminates in the arrogant Lamech. But after Seth is mentioned the record says "At that time men began to call on the name of the LORD." Clearly this is a favorable indication for this line.

Seth's name means "substitute." He was viewed by Eve as a replacement for her son Abel who was killed. The theme of substitution, which begins here in the Bible, constantly recurs.

When Abraham was about to sacrifice his son Isaac, God provided a substitute - a ram. The sacrificial system meticulously described in the Bible's book called Leviticus provides for substitutes to be sacrificed for human sin. This included for example, a goat that the people would lay hands on to transfer their sin to the goat. The goat was then sent out into the wilderness. Thus, the substitute removed their sins far away from them.

The ultimate substitute is not finally discovered until the New Testament portion of the Bible. When Jesus Christ was crucified, it was for the sins of humanity. He was our substitute, and he still is.

Seth had other unnamed sons and daughters.

When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.

Either Enoch did not suffer a physical death or his passing was in some other way quite remarkable. He is the only one since Adam who is said to have "walked with God." In the New Testament, Jesus promises that those who put their trust in him will also walk with God in the new heaven and new earth.

In Noah's time, the whole earth was covered in a flood and all life was lost, except for Noah, his family, and the birds and animals he saved on the ship (ark) God instructed him to build. The written record tells us why this happened:

Now the LORD observed the extent of the people’s wickedness, and he saw that all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil. So the LORD was sorry he had ever made them. It broke his heart. And the LORD said, “I will completely wipe out this human race that I have created. Yes, and I will destroy all the animals and birds, too. I am sorry I ever made them. But Noah found favor with the LORD.

This is the history of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless man living on earth at the time. He consistently followed God’s will and enjoyed a close relationship with him. (Genesis 6:5-9)

When Noah was 600 years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month, the underground waters burst forth on the earth, and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky. The rain continued to fall for forty days and forty nights. But Noah had gone into the boat that very day with his wife and his sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth—and their wives. With them in the boat were pairs of every kind of breathing animal--domestic and wild, large and small--along with birds and flying insects of every kind. Two by two they came into the boat, male and female, just as God had commanded. Then the LORD shut them in. (Genesis 7:11-16)
