Photo Captions for above image: [top, left] The James W. Wadsworth — The disinfecting boat to which the emmigrants afflicted with contagious diseases are transferred for fumigation. However, such diseases as diphtheria, scarlet fever, etc., are not detained here, but are allowed to pass. Ellis Island is supposed to look after such cases.

[bottom, left] Doctors Boarding Steamship — After greeting the officers on board, the doctors inspect the emigrants who file beforethem; such as are afflicted with contagious diseases, are transferred to the disinfecting boat, while the ship is thoroughly disinfected.
