She married HENRY BLACK March 17, 1898 in Puslinch Township, Ontario, Canada, son of JOHN BLACK and CHARLOETTE ROBERTS. He was born May 03, 1876 in Puslinch, Township, Ontario, Canada, and died January 09, 1953 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Notes for ETHEL V. BLACK:

Funeral service for Ethel V. Derby, who died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital, was conducted Saturday at the McLintyre and Wilkie Funeral Home. Mrs. Derby was the former Ethel V. Black. She is survived by her husband John M. Derby, two brothers, Wilbert of London and Jack of Guelph, and a sister, Mrs. Muriel Young also of Guelph. Mrs. Derby was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Harold and a sister, Mrs. Clara Shaw. Rev. R. Forbes Thomson of St. Andrew's Pres. Church officiated and burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry Black, Bob Black, Bill Black, Edgar Black, Paul Young and Mark Rockery.

According to William Black's research, there were no children born to Ethel and John. They helped in the raising of her brother Clifford's children particularly after he was separated from his wife Katherine Mary. Ethel also played a key role during the formative years in the life of Muriel Shaw, her eldest sister's child.

Black-At his late residence, on Monday April 18,1977,Wilbert H. (Fred) Black of 235 Cathcart St., London, in his 77th year. Beloved husband of Mildred I. (Norry) Black. Dear father of W. H. Black of Toronto. Dear brother of Mrs. Muriel Young and John Black both of Guelph. Predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Harold and two sisters, Ethel and Clara. Loved by six Grandchildren. Friends may be received at the A. Millard George Funeral Home,60 Rideout St. S., where services will be conducted in the Chapel on Thurs. April 21,at 1 p.m. with Rev. D. Graham Tipple DD of Calvary United Church officiating. Interment in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens

Notes for MURIEL VICTORIA FRY:

Mr. Black's information regarding Muriel Elizabeth Black (nee Fry), is that after their divorce in 1932, she lived with her widowed Mother and became a hair dresser. She worked in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Buffalo for such salons as J. Nelson Day, Eliz. Arden and Antoinnes of Paris. Although she was engaged twice, she never remarried. Lou Rowlands died shortly after their engagement. Her engagement to Patrick Slater of Buffalo N.Y., never led to marriage.

iii. HAROLD WILLIAM BLACK, b. October 29, 1902, Guelph, Ontario, Canada; d. January 18, 1909.

George Shaw was a Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church and a charter member of the Guelph Gideon Camp. His brother Robert and his sisters lived in Flin Flon, Manitoba.

Dear father of John Edgar Black of Scarborough, Margaret (Mrs. Donald Haennel) of Guelph, Frances (Mrs. Bud Welch) of Dutton, Gary John Black of Guelph, Anne (Mrs. Michael Matteson) of Fergus and Lynne McHaffie of Nova Scotia. Fondly remembered by 19 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Survived by one sister, Muriel Young of Guelph. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Viola(Bowman)Black,3 brothers, Wilbert, Clifford and Harold, and 2 sisters, Ethel (Mrs. John Derby) and Clar (Mrs. George Shaw). Friends may call at the Wall-Custance Funeral Home and Chapel at 206 Norfolk St., Guelph where funeral and commitment services will be held on Wed.Dec.24,1986 at 1:00 p.m. the Rev.Ronald C. Smeaton officiating. Interment, Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph. The family will receive friends Mon.7:00-9:00 p.m. and Tues.2:00-4:00p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society ,Norfolk St. United Church Memorial Fund (Guelph) or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
