As chronicled in the book below, Ostheim helped to pay the way for these new immigrants to Canada. There was a great famine in Germany at this time and this was a chance at a better way of life for some people.

I have genealogical information on several of these families in Canada. Please contact me if I you are interested in any of them.

A for "Uncle" Heinrich (WINDECKEN AND CHRONIK OSTHEIM-2000) and his wife "Bena" who have been most generous with their time. I am indebted to them for the many hours they spent answering my questions.

In May of 1847 these families left Ostheim for America. They went to Bremen and landed in Quebec.
