As chronicled in the book below, Ostheim helped to pay the way for these new immigrants to Canada. There was a great famine in Germany at this time and this was a chance at a better way of life for some
people.

In May of 1847 these families left Ostheim for America. They went to Bremen and landed in Quebec.
