 Descendents of Margaretha Bauman and Joseph Steffler

     MARGARETHA⁸ BAUMAN was born August 26, 1826 (baptism) in Waterloo Twp., Ontario, and died June 23, 1906 in 1/2 Mile East of Josephsburg, Ont., Canada.  She married JOSEPH STEFFLER¹ July 06, 1841 in Puslinch, Ontario, Canada², son of ANTHONY STEFFLER and CATHARINA FRITZ.  He was born May 23, 1814 in Kaidenbourg, Bas Rhin,France^3,4, and died September 09, 1883 in Wilmot Ontario Canada.

 Notes for MARGARETHA BAUMAN:

Margaret Bauman was born in 1826 in Waterloo Township, near Fischer Mills, on Lot # 13 Con. # 1 of Beasley's Lower Block. She grew up in Puslinch Township and moved to Wilmot Township shortly after her marriage to Joseph Steffler.

JOSEPHSBURG

Mrs. Joe Steffler, Sr., passed away quietly at the home of her son, Mr. Joe Steffler about a half a mile east of this village, on Saturday. Her husband predeceased her about twenty years ago.

Much of the information on the descendants of Joseph Steffler and Margaret Bauman was obtained from Denise Popowich of Kitchener/ Waterloo. Without her work on this part of our family, I would not know as much as I know now. Thank you Denise.

Sponsors at baptism were George Feist age 3_? and Joseph Schall age 25.

Joseph Steffler stated that he was born in Alsace france. He came to Puslinch with his parents {Anthony and Catherine Fritz} in about 1830-1831. In 1841 he marries Joseph and Josephine Bauman's daughter Margaret. In 1842 he is listed as a head of household along with his father Anthony on Lot 26 Con.7 (map) Puslinch. Not long after this he moves to Wilmot Township (Lot 5 Con.3). In later years he owned a house in Bamberg (Wilmot Township).

There was a son born to Joseph and Margaret on July 30,1848.He was baptised "Joseph". The sponsors at his baptisim were Joseph Willy and Dorothea Fritz. I am assuming that he died before 1852 when another son was born whom Joseph and Margaret also called "Joseph". I believe it was this Joseph who survived to marry Clara Stoesser.

The schedule of death states that Joseph was a retired farmer. He died of a gravel inflammation of the urinary organs. The doctor was Dr. Bingham of Waterloo. The witness was Anthony Steffler, son of the deceased, from Bamberg, Ontario.
