Descendants of John Kohler JOHN1 KOHLER was born Abt. 1777 in Dettwiller Alsace?1, and died May 19, 1842 in Puslinch Township, Ontario, Canada. He married BARBARA ROLL. She was born in Dettwiller Alsace?. Notes for JOHN KOHLER: There is a John Kohler on Lot 5 of the Broken Front Concession in Waterloo in 1830. Henry B. Bauman and Casper Roll are on the same lot at the same time. Witnesses to his death were Ludovicus(Louis) Steffler and Michael Hart. A letter dated My 22, 1830 by John Kohler states that he wishes to have Lot # 5 Con. # 8 in Puslinch Township. Notes for BARBARA ROLL: Casper Roll of Puslinch (via Dettwiller) was married to Elizabeth Koehler. They lived in the north end of Puslinch, towards Guelph, on the 7th concession along with John and Joseph Koehler, George Adam Steffler and sons, Conrad Schwartzenberger, Jacob Kaiser, the Deemerts, Flynn's and the Weltzers. If I may digress here for a moment, I'll give a brief outline of some marriages of Puslinch people in the 1830's and 1840's. Charles Feurerstein (Fireston) married Margaret Schwartzenberger, Charles Diemert married Mary Koehler, John Diemert married Barbara Koehler, Jacob Kaiser married Mary Oberle, Joseph Weiler married Magdelena Steffler, Christian Rich married Barbara Algeyse, Joseph Lorentz married Magdelena Kuttler (Schuttler/Schickler), Joseph Kunneman married Johanna Mauder and then Clara Goetz. George Weltzer was married to Catherine Joseph and after her death he married Therisa Hoffman, widow of John Sebastian Wagner, Ludwig Steffler married Therisa Wagner, Felix Schuhmaker married Margaret Steffler, George Adam Steffler married Elizabeth Wernsperger, Nicholas Ball married Elizabeth Steffler, Peter Kunneman married Elizabeth Kaiser, Casper Steffler married Maria Kaiser and Jacob Aspenleiter married Elizabeth Koehler. Not all of these people lived in Puslinch but most did. The others have direct relations {parents or brothers and sisters} who lived in Puslinch for a time, from 1830 onward. It doesn't take long for one generation to have 10-12 children and for all of those children to get married. The relationships are far greater than I had ever hoped to discover. Through my own discovery, the pockets of people that settled together, be it in Puslinch, New Germany, Wilmot or Wellesley, were somehow related already from their homeland. For example, a great many of New Germany (Maryhill) settlers were from Soufflenheim France. The magnitude of interrelationships is mind-boggling. One only has to search the Catholic records to confirm this. Child of JOHN KOHLER and BARBARA ROLL is:
