 CAROLINE MATILDA¹⁰ BOWMAN was born August 31, 1875 in Puslinch Township, Ontario, Canada¹. She married HENRY LEITCH November 02, 1892 in Hespeler, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada², son of HUBERT LEITCH and SUSANNA SCHMIDT. He was born Abt. 1865 in Detroit Michigan, and died Abt. 1958.

She's 101

One of the city's oldest residents Mrs. Carolyn Leach celebrated her 101st birthday at Oshawa General hospital on Tuesday.

"It's ridiculous living to be 101", she told her daughter Mrs. Gladys Vance before her birthday celebrations. Mrs. Leach was born Aug. 31, 1875 in the Guelph area and has been a resident of Oshawa for more than 60 years. She has one son, Melvin Leach of Maryland, who is expected home for a visit, and daughters Mrs. Gladys Vance and Mrs. Edna Maracle, both of Oshawa. Another daughter Mrs. Orlie Conlin is deceased.

The centerian celebrated her 101st birthday with apple pie, her favorite dish, and roasted chicken. She was pleased to receive a greeting card from the Queen.

Mrs. Vance says her mother was "Very proud of gardening in her younger years. She spent a lot of time tatting and embroidering and was too busy to do much of anything else"., she added.

A few months ago Mrs. Leach asked her daughters to send a hairdresser to the hospital so she could have her hair permed, a service Mrs. Vance says "thrilled her mother".

"Many people ask me about her longevity. I know Mother never drank or smoked all her life, but then again she was never really healthy and suffered a heart attack a number of years ago".

The centerian is considered bright and entertains visitors at the hospital with "stories of the good old days".

" I remember her as a very strict mother in every way when we girls were growing up, and she always told me that a proper education offered the best things in life" Mrs. Vance recalled.

The only son of Carrie and Harry, Melvin was married twice, and was a Captain for the Washington D. C. Police department.

2. GLADYS¹¹ LEACH  was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, and died 1994 in Oshawa, Ontario. She married WILLIAM VANCE. He was born 1892, and died 1964.

Warren Vance was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force and was

killed in action during WW2.

4. EDNA ELVINA¹¹ LEACH was born April 16, 1895 in Puslinch Township, Ontario, Canada. She married CHARLES G. MARACLE 1921 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, son of CHARLES MARACLE and LOUISE UNKNOWN. He was born July 04, 1900 in Deseronto, Ontario, and died September 17, 1968 in Oshawa General Hospital.

Charles was a Minister of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and president of the Maracle Printing Press in Oshawa
