PUGHS FROM THE OUTER BANKS AREA OF NC Please Contact: Ruth Pugh Parks Some of the earliest records of Pughs in the Outer Banks area of North Carolina are contained in the Currituck County, NC records. Thomas Pugh appears in some of the earlier records – he appears in the 1755 and 1779 Taxables lists, and his land patent is referenced in later Pugh deeds. We currently have one participant from the Thomas Pugh line. This participant is descended from Thomas Pugh's son George and grandson Little John Pugh. George Pugh had another son Dameron Pugh. We would like to find more participants from this line to compare with our current participant so that we can establish a modal haplotype for this line. There are also other Pugh's listed in the records for the Outer Banks of North Carolina in the mid to late 1700's. The 1755 Taxables list includes George Pew and Stephen Peugh. I have unconfirmed data that Thomas Pugh's son George was approximately 29 when he died in 1789 so this could be a different George Pew. I have been unable to find Stephen Peugh in other records at this time. There are several land transactions in the 1700's and early 1800's naming Thomas Pugh, William Pugh, William Pugh Sr, George Pugh, Little John Pugh, Paul Pugh, James Pugh, Cornelius Pugh. We also have Francis Pugh witnessing some land sales in 1801. We do not currently know if some of these Pugh's are related to the current participants. We would like to find a descendant from these lines to compare their results with our current participants to perhaps establish a relationship that we have been unable to establish with paper records. Although these events are listed in the Currituck County, NC records they take place on present day Hatteras Island and Roanoke Island in Dare County, NC.
