Subject: Ellison, and Robert Alexander Sprouse - I'm researching sprouses (dad's line) and have got as far as davidson sprouse (gggrandfather in cocke county tn). His father was from s carolina, maybe, and named james, maybe, or robert. davidson was born maybe in spartanburg. do you have any info on this family? 3 brothers, davidson, ellison, and robert alexander. davidson fought for union, other two were confederate. davidson's son james grand moved to indian territory, alexander died on his way to texas in the 1870's, and ellison died in newport tn in 1917. would like info regarding their parents, birthplaces. if you can help.

Subject: Sprouse, John Jackson, 1860-?, b. WV - John Jackson Sprouse, s/o Benjamin and Nancy Sprouse, was born ca1860 in Lewis Co., VA(WV). He married Martha Louise Sholes August 30, 1883, in Lewis Co., WV. They were the parents of one son, Press, b. July 8, 1884. When Press was approximately 3 years old, Jackson left home and was never heard of again. I would appreciate any information you could provide in helping me locate John Jackson. A Jackson Sprouse has been located in Athens Co., OH, who married Elizabeth Smith, d/o Valentine Smith. Elizabeth was b. June 5, 1864 in WV and died Jan 8, 1938, in Athens Co., OH. This particular John Jackson and his wife, Elizabeth, are buried in Spruce Run Cemetery in Broadwell, Athens Co., OH. Is this John Jackson my elusive greatgrandfather?

Subject: Nancy (Sprouse) Meadows, 1830 - 1892 - According to Ragland's "History of Logan County (W.Va.)," written in 1896, "The settlement at the mouth of Spruce, where Lewis Rutherford now lives, was made by Benjamin Sprouse. At just what time he settled there is not known, but he raised a large family of boys and girls, and with Reuben Thacker, a brother-in-law, moved further to the west, selling his place to William Davis, who came from Albermarle County, and claimed to be a first cousin of Thomas Jefferson." Looking for any information of Benjamin Sprouse.

Subject: Davidson Sprouse, Cocke County TN - Am descended from Davidson Sprouse, Cocke County TN. His son James Grant Sprouse moved to Haskell County OK. He was my great grandfather. Davidson was born in Spartanburg Co SC around 1828. His father was maybe Robert Sprouse b. 1790 maybe in Virginia. Family myth is that Sprouses came from Germany around 1640, first to Ireland, then to colonies. Name originally was Sprotz, denoting a spring of water. Anglicized to Sprouse. Do you know more? I have info re James Grant Sprouse's descendents.
