Sarver Family Queries

Subject: Reynolds-Sarvers - I have family connections to Craig Co., Va. with Reynolds and Sarver ancestors. Part of Craig Co. used to be part of Giles co., so wonder if there might be a link. My great great grandparents were Lloyd Reynolds (21) married Emeline "Emma" Sarver(18) on Sept. 13, 1871 in Craig Co., Va. His parents were Jacob and Susan Reynolds and her parents were George and Elizabeth Sarver. This is straight from their marriage records. If you should have information that you you wouldn't mind sharing I would be grateful! Thanks!

From the Craig co., va. census from 1880, I think I have found Lloyd Reynolds and wife Emma, but it lists Lloyd as being James.(p.19) I wonder if this could be a first name, and he just went by middle name LLoyd? They have a son listed, John F. which is right for being my great grandfather. I think i have found Emma's family in the 1870 Craig. Co. census on page 36. I just want to be sure I guess.

Subject: John and Casper Sarver of Botetout Co VA about l770 era - Interest in John and Casper Sarver of Botetout Co VA about l770 era. There was a Henry Seaver living there with wife Elizabeth and children John, Jacob, and Elizabeth, and possibly Jeremiah. The Seaver genealogy by Jesse M Seaver l924 said "A man naed Seever or similar emigrated in l752 and died on the voyage. His wife and children Casper, Henry, and John arrived safely". Some genealogist thought the parent of Henry in Botetout Co was named Casper and reported it so. It seems likely that the Sarver family might be brothers of henry Seaver as all were in Botetout Co VA at the same time. John and Casper died and left wills but did not mention Henry....

The Seaver Genealogy went on "A man named Abraham Seever emigrated shortly after l752 and was thought to be the younger brother of the above (Casper??). It named his children.. Among the children was a William . There was an unaccounted for William Seaver/Sever who bonded the l796 marriage of James Lamar to Elizabeth Seaver (D/o Henry and Elizabeth Seaver of Botetout Co ). He seemed to be in the Botetout Co l800 census living with two males was his last account. Was he the William son of Abraham or someone else. My ancestor William Severs born l752 could have been that William but??. Wm Severs married l793 to Catherine Peck in nearby Montgomery Co. He had a female child and a wife in l800 so he could not have been in the Botetout Census in l800.

Anyone shedding any light on these connections would be appreciated.

Subject: Sarver and Trail Families - Hello, my name is Bill Gold and I am writing from Ft. Myers, Fl. My birthplace was Huntington, WV in 1934 and I am attempting to trace my mother's family whose roots trace to Vivian, WV.

I have the following information:

Grt. Grandfather - Samuel Marshall Sarver
Grt. Grandmother - Martha Lee Cottle

Grandfather - William Lee Sarver
Grandmother - Georgia Ellen Trail (Father - Samuel Meriweather Trail, Mother - Marsha Ellen McKinney)

Mother - Sylvia (Sylvania?) Wood Sarver (1906 -1961)
(Brother - Samuel Marshall Sarver, Wife, Pauline, Daughters, Rose Ellen and Betty Jane)
(Sisters - Leona Mae Sarver(Davis), Eva Kate Sarver(Mayersohn), Ruth Ellen Sarver(Jones)

Last known address for Sam Sarver and his family was Beckley. I believe that my mother and the family attended Welch High School.

I believe that Grandfather, William Lee Sarver may have been Superintendent of the Peerless Mine at or near Vivian.

My wife and I will be visiting the area during late August in search of family roots. We would appreciate any information or leads which you might be able to provide. We are particularly interested in tracing the whereabouts of any living relatives and in filling in the dates on added ancestors and dates/locations in their lives.

Subject: Sarvers & ReynoldsI appreciate the information! In checking my copies of the 1860 and 1870 Craig Co. census, I have found that Loyd Reynolds is not listed in either of them. This makes me wonder where he come from! Maybe from Giles Co.? Maybe that is where one of the ties are? Do you have the address of the Giles Co. historical society? Maybe I can do some asking there.

Actually, I also looked in the 1860 census for Emma's family. I couldn't find her either. I thought that she might have maybe still been at home at that time. (not married). But, I couldn't find her. I went through every Sarver in the book. Maybe they both came from some other place - maybe near by, or maybe not so near. I don't know. Maybe we'll find out! Thanks again for the information!

Subject: Reynolds and Sarvers - I have noticed that you are also researching the Reynolds and Sarvers names to some extent. I am looking for information on Loyd Reynolds and Emma Lawson Sarver Reynolds, (my gggrandparents on my fathers' mothers side of the family).I know of one son that they had- John Floyd Reynolds, (my ggrandfather- called J.F.), born June 2,1869- died November 22, 1952, but no other children, if any. They were from the Craig Co., Va. area, (which borders W.Va.), so didn't know if there might possibly be some links or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Subject: Sarvers & more - My grandmother's mother was Martilia Sarver Belcher. Her parents were William Sarver and Virginia Shawver from Shawver's Mill. Martilia - different people spell it differently. I have her born 12/1/1864 and died 8/5/1945. They lived at Cove Creek near Clear Fork. The graves are on the hill behind Neel's or Neal's farm. My father was also born in the area and raised near Bluefield. My grandmather is dead, but she has sister and other relatives living in Bluefield. Verona Atkins lives in Brushfork. She is the only living daughter or Martilia.

I noticed that you have a different spelling for Belcher. You have Belsher - we have it as Belcher. They were a large family and I have much info on them.

My grandmother married Robert F. Powers and they lived over near Mechanicsburg before moving to Maryland.

I have found some Steele names in our family tree.
