Subject: Crist-Frazer line - Tom, Thanks for leading me to Kelly--we indeed come from the same line. My line goes back to the Crist-Kauffman marriage then Andrew Crist m Eliz and they had umpteen children, one of whom was Mary (Polly) who married Thomas Frazer and they moved to the Lewisberg area in what was then VA. One of their children, Adeline moved with her bros and sisters and mother to IL where she eventually married John Grant and among their children was Margaret who married Joshua Bush and among their children was Lulu who married Robert Barnes and they had only Forrest, who was my father. Can you follow that convoluted path? I am a lousy genealogist but love connecting with others from the same family tree--you are also one of us, I think! I do have Beverly Rich's book too. Anyway, I wrote to Kelly with some details and gave her the name of another Crist from the above family---a brother of Adeline which I think is the line Kelly comes from. Haven't heard back from her but have hopes. Keep up your work!! As I get my infomation more organized I will send you the Crist-Frazer line if you are interested.

Subject: Polly Crist - Hi! My name is Kelly (Frazer) Davis, and my ancestor Thomas Frazer married Polly Crist in 1797 near in the Augusta county Virginia. I've discovered that Thomas moved to the Kanawha in 1801. He died there in 1832. Since the Kanawha is some pretty big territory, I'm trying to figure out where he might be buried. I notice that your site has a lot of West Virginia links on it, and I'm wondering if Thomas traveled out there with any of the Crists. After he died in West Virginia in 1832, the whole family moved to the Chicago area. Did the Crists move west too? Did some of them stay on in Augusta County? Do you know anyone who might know all this? :-)
Thanks!
Kelly Davis

Response: - Hi Kelly, It was nice hearing from you. I wasn’t aware of any Crists being here in the Kanawha Valley prior to my great grandfather’s arrival (he was born in Nelson Co., Va., and married in Kanawha in 1877). My great grandfather was Charles Kemper Mauzy Crist (1848-1926), son of Jacob Miller Crist (1807-1895) and Mary Koogler, and grandson of John Crist (1771-1860) and Mary Miller. John was also the brother of Polly Crist who married Thomas Frazer in 1797, and according to Beverly Crist Rich, author of The Crist Family from The Oaks, William Breeze was surety on Frazer’s marriage bond, and John Crist swore Polly was of age.
Beverly’s book is an excellent account of the Crists (Christs), and their migration from Pennsylvania to the Shenandoah Valley. She descends from Polly’s brother Andrew II, while I descend from brother John. If you’re not familiar with this account, you might want to contact Beverly at brrich@olympus.net. She has traced the family back a couple generations earlier, to the mid 1700s.
If I get a chance, I’ll look locally (in Charleston) to see what I might find on Thomas Frazer, but I can’t promise just when that might be. Please stay in touch, and please submit what you have on your branch. I’d love to include it on the web site. The Crists are kind of dear to me. Mom was one.
Regards,
Tom Steele

Subject: John Thomas Crist (1867-1919) & Maud Catherine Kikendall Crist (1875-1936) - My maternal grandfather was James Milford Crist, b-~1898 or so, ?? place (? Colorado), d-1969 in FL. He & my grandmother, Thenamae Rhodes, were married in 1930 and divorced in 1935. He was a rodeo clown & vagabond, is about all we know--very talented artist--but quite a "story teller" or "teller of tall tales" if you know what I mean. His father & mother were John Thomas Crist (1867-1919) & Maud Catherine Kikendall Crist (1875-1936).
Grandpa Crist had a sister who was in the DAR (through Kikendall line) in Arkansas--I was able to obtain a copy of her application papers, but am having difficulty proving that my grandfather & she were brother & sister because we don't know where he was born. Is there anyone out there with Crist ancestry who can help?

My father's name was Joseph Miller Crist (born January 20, 1930 and died December 1, 1996). My grandfather's name was William Ira Crist, all I know at the moment, (new to this geneaology stuff!!) is that he grew up somewhere in the Kanawha Co area of WV. I would love to know how I should get started on tracing the history. I do know there is a Jacob Crist in the family and I have noticed there are some with the middle name of Miller, which was my father's middle name and is my brother's middle name. I could provide you with the names of sons, uncles, cousins, sisters, etcetera on my dad's side of the family, but would like to know how to get beyond them!! Also, could you give me the name of Barbara Crist Rich's book and where I might be able to find it.
Look forward to hearing from you soon!! Thanks, keep up the good work!!

Response - I don't see a connection right off, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be one. My line ties in with that of Beverly Crist Rich of Port Townsend, Wash., who has written a nice account of this branch of the family, "The Crist Family from The Oaks," as they migrated from Pennsylvania down to the Shenandoah Valley. One of our direct ancestors, Jacob Crist, married in 1800 and had at least 12 children, one of whom was Henry (no dates given). This could be the same Henry, or possibly the father of uncle of your Henry. You might want to contact her to see if she has additional information. Good luck with your search.

Subject: Crist family history - My book will take you back several generations, and give you more of a feel for the Crists. Your first Jacob that you mention was Jacob Miller Crist, and he was an important member of the Nelson County, VA area, was a land developer with a cousin of his. His roots were in Augusta County, VA, and before that his forefathers came from York and Lancaster Counties in PA., and maybe from Switzerland rather than Germany. Hope you have recovered well from surgery.
