The Last Will and Testament of Ralph A. Steel
of all his personal property and real estate and
affects of real estate to the following Beloved heirs
to have and to hold forever as theirs at my Decease
Then the said heirs to dispose of at their pleasure to wit:
First - To My Beloved Son John, Deceast, to his heirs I will one
Dollar To be paid out of my affects at my death.
Second - To My Beloved son George, I will one dollar out of
my affects at my death.
Third - To My Beloved Daughter Ruth L., Deceast, I will one
Dollar to be paid to her heirs at my death.
Fourth - To my Beloved Son Lewis, I will one dollar
to be paid at my death.
Fifth - To my Beloved Son Samuel, I will one dollar to
be paid at my death.
Sixth - To my Beloved Son William, I will one dollar
to be paid at my death out of my affects.
Seventh - To my Beloved son L.D. Steel, I will one dollar to be
paid at my death out of my affects at
my death.
Eighth - To my Beloved Daughter Catherine, I will one
Dollar to be paid at my death as others.
Ninth - To the heirs of my Beloved Daughter Rebecca M.,
Deceast, I will one Dollar to be paid at my death
as others.
To my Beloved Jane Dewty, my Niece, I will one of
my cows at my death to have and to dispose of
as hers, or before my death if she marrys and
settles herself.
And - To Mary C. Steel, daughter of L.S., my Beloved niece,
I will one cow, white one, to have and to hold
forever as hers at my death or sooner
if settled down.
The little steer, I Ralph A. Steel, reserve for my own
benefit.
And - I will to my Beloved Son Lewis Steel my bay
horse. I reserve privilege of riding same horse
when I want to.
And - To Jane Dewty and Mary C Steel, My Beloved
[ two ] nieces [ I have written ]
I will my feathers [ braid ] and all its
covers and pillows equally between them to have and
to hold at my death
And - To Thomas Dewty, former son in law, his son
Leander Dewty, my Beloved Nephew, I will
fifty-seven acres of land lying on Pigeon Creek,
if Dr. James O'Keeff fails to take said Land.
If the said O'Keeff takes said land and pays for
the same, the affects of said land I reserve to
dispose of at my own pleasure.
Also - I will to Thomas Dewty above named, and son
above named, all my furniture, to wit
book case one [ bed room ] to have from this date Jan the
7th 1885, and to hold forever.
Also - I will The benefit all taxes I have paid on L.D. Steel's
house and the part of the tract of land claimed by
Dow to collect and have for his own forever.
Also - I will unto my beloved son L.S. Steel all debt
coming from George Steel, my son, to me for
land. Lewis Steel to collect and have and hold as
his own forever.
Also - I will unto my beloved son Lewis Steel [ Eleven ] Dollar
debt due me from L.D. Steel with its interest from day of
contract to collect and have and hold forever.
This is my Last Will and Testament of all my
personal property and real estate to the Parties above
mentioned.
Also - I will to Catherine Justice and B.H. Justice my daughter
and son in law, one debt incured by B.H. Justice to me
for borrowed often to pay on his debt to Anthony Lawson
This borrowed money $10.00 Dollars which amounts to $210.00
to keep free from all the other heirs [ free of ] collection from
any.
I Ralph A. Steel Doth choose and appoint
for my Executor to this will of mine the said Rev'd. A.M. Toler.
I Ralph A. Steel as due the county court: Not to demand no surety
of the said AM Toler to this will.

The Foregoing Will was this day presented to me in
my office for record, and the same being duly proven
and there being no objections offered thereto, the same is

Note on transcription. Every effort has been made to transcribe my great great grandfather's will as accurately as possible, and I'm confident that it couldn't have been done more accurately. The few areas I was less sure of are bracketed. Also note that the surname Duty was spelled Dewty in several instances, and niece and nephew were substituted for grandchildren. Enjoy.
