SCHULTZ FAMILY CEMETERY: aka Marks-Schultz Seven graves relocated
in Glenwood Cemetery RECORDED: Cemeteries of Harris County,
Texas Vol. II (Lorine Brinley, privately published 1985). [I believe this note applies to this cemetery:
"Sorry about confusing you. I associate the Bliek name with the
cemetery located off Memorial Drive. It may be referenced as the
Marks-Schultz Family Cemetery. It's the one located on the key map
pg. 488, section C, I think. According to the Mark's family
descendants, Johann Schultz and Sophie (1st. cousin Schultz) lived
in Letitia (later became Addicks town site). Both were buried in
the Marks Family Cemetery and later in 1979 the graves were moved to
Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston."]
The given GPS coordinates from the nearest side road
(about 100ft East of the original location) |
"I've spoken
with Maudeen Marks, the youngest child of Emil and Maud Marks, and
she directed me to where her family graveyard used to be (a few
years back, Maudeen's older sister, Atha, had all of the graves
relocated to Glenwood cemetery in town). The original site was on
the South side of I-10 in what is now an empty field, just West of
the BP Amoco Building's parking garage. The actual GPS coordinates
from the nearest side road (about 100ft East of the location) are
N29 47.026 W95 37.944 and the graves were located under a small
group of very old live oaks. The Schultz's were Maudeen's
grandparents." (email from Chris Culberson) |

TX |
HARRIS |
29° 47.103 |

I think the following relates to the Oscar Abstein burial site and
not the Schultz family:
SCHULTZ FAMILY CEMETERY: Spring. Four graves recorded in
Northwest Harris Co and Southwest Montgomery Co TX Cemeteries
(Chaparral Genealogical Society, Tomball TX 1993) |
These two graves sit high above the northwest
intersection of N. Eldridge Parkway and the north I-10 feeder road.
They are accessed via Old Katy Road off of N Eldridge Parkway and
are marked by two wooden crosses. This small burial site
has also been called Schultz-Marks which is strange given the names
on the graves (Abstein and __usche) although it is rumored that
there were at least two other graves at the site.
[I believe this note applies to this cemetery:
"Sorry about confusing you. I associate the Bliek name with the
cemetery located off Memorial Drive. It may be referenced as the
Marks-Schultz Family Cemetery. It's the one located on the key map
pg. 488, section C, I think. According to the Mark's family
descendants, Johann Schultz and Sophie (1st. cousin Schultz) lived
in Letitia (later became Addicks town site). Both were buried in
the Marks Family Cemetery and later in 1979 the graves were moved to
Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston."]
NOTE: This is NOT the Schultz
Cemetery. I'm not sure how that error occurred but see the
Schultz Cemetery listing for details. |

Shady Lane north of 9350 Westheimer. It took a while but I
finally found #22 down a small dirt road to the right of and sitting
behind #22a. I could find nothing here during my visit.
An old, dilapidated, vine-covered shack which appears to have been a
dwelling is visible in the picture but nothing else. Maybe
someone can research the history of this cemetery and the current
ownership? |

PITSCHMANN FAMILY CEMETERY: NW Harris Co. Seven marked graves for
Pitschmann and Schultz. Recorded in Northwest Harris Co and
Southwest Montgomery Co TX Cemeteries (Chaparral Genealogical
Society, Tomball 1993). |
Driving south on Spring
Cypress, turn right (northwest) onto Huffmeister. Follow
Huffmeister for about 2 miles or so and it will do a very hard
"curve" to the left (the last curve on the road). At the curve, you
will see a private road to the right leading into a pasture (there
is also a trailer house sitting south of the road). Go through the
curve (very important) and the first private road you see has a
large overhead "archway" post with the house numbers on it (much
like these cemetery entrance signs). Turn right onto that
driveway/private road. Its very long and you can barely see the
house from Huffmeister but continue on the road. When you get down
and see the barn, look to the northeast - you will see a chainlink
fence enclosed area (its very small). That is the Pritschmann
cemetery. I counted only 8 tombstones, with one of them being broken
and another being pushed off its base, into the fence. Inside the
fence is very overgrown - we had to hack our way into it to
photograph the tombstones. JECastillo |
