"SURRAT-BOLTON. I have a Bible of Allen Surrat, published 1858, pages torn, missing, born 11 Dec 1763, NC, lived Spartanburg, SC 1799, 1800, 1818, moved about 1828 to Tennessee with probable brothers John and Samuel in 1790 Spartanburg, SC, all died in Tenn. Children of Allen Surrat readable in Bible:

He had two sons, one dau. in 1790 census. Allen Surrat, b. 20 Nov 1807, son of Allen, m. Elizabeth Bolton, b 5 Mar 1814, moved to Symsonia, Graves Co., KY, before 1860. Would like to hear from Surratt, Surrett families of Allen Surrat, John or Samuel Surrat. Sincerley, Hazel Ciccio."

I don't believe this is Allen,2 SARRETT (1763-1850) Bible.

Fact 1. This Bible was not even published until 1858? How could a the owner who died before 1850 write in this Bible? that was published 8 years after his death?

Fact 2. I agree Allen,2 moved to Cocke Co., TN. in 1828, but brothers did Not!

Bio It is believed that ALLEN,2 SARRETT, was born near the East Yadkin River in the old Rowan Co., now located in southern Davison Co., NC; When he was about 2 years old (1771) he removed to the southwest part of the state, near the state boarder, West of the "Main" Broad River, in the old See: Tyron Co., of NC. (Tyron Co. was reformed in 1772 to Spartanburg, in the Ninety-Six District of South Carolina..prs);

Bio When his father SAMUEL, 2 SARRATT'S Survey and Grant was issued in 1771, his property was then in the jurisdiction of the Colony North Carolina. In the boundary dispute between the two Carolina Colonies in 1772, which was called the "New Acquisition" and residents of this area were forced to re-register their property with the Colony South Carolina.

Bio With out even moving, after the re-register in 1772, ALLEN, 2 SARRETT'S property was then located in the Ninety-Six District of South Carolina (formed 1769) Then in 1785, it became part of the Spartanburg Co, South Carolina. Later when Cherokee Co. was formed in 1897 from Spartanburg, Union and York Counties it can be found in Cherokee Co., SC.

Bio ALLEN SARRATT's brother John,2 SARRATT, Sr., age 25 received a Land Grant from the State of South Carolina, for 220 acres. This land was located adjoining his brothers ALLEN,2 SARRATT and father SAMUEL,2 SARRATT, Sr. along the West side of the Broad River, Spartanburg area of the 96th District, South Carolina. (State Plat, Vol 10 Page 513)
220 acres of land lying on the banks of the Broad River, County of Spartanburg, Ninety-Six District, South Carolina; adjoining the property of ALLEN,2 SARRATT on one line; with SAMUEL SARRATT on the other; and connecting a corner with Mike's Creek.

Witness by father SAMUEL, 2 SARRATT, Sr. or brother SAMUEL, 3 SARRATT, 
Jr. and brother WILLIAM SARRATT; Thus leaving some 300 acres left 
from the 1792 Grant 450 acre property. (Spartanburg DBk F Page 157-8,

Two years later a record shows a 2nd Deed was prepared on 09 March, 
1795, in which ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, age 31 listed now he was residing 
in Spartanburg Co., SC sold some 148 acres of his 450 acre Land Grant; 
to his brother JOHN, 3 SARRATT's, Son-in-law REDDICK ARENDELL 
who was already living on the property. This Deed was recorded on 
26th Oct. 1798; Thus now leaving some 160 acres of the 1792 Grant.

ARNDELL, sold 135 acres, which he bought from ALLEN, 2 SARRETT 
to Nephew ANTHONY SARRATT, 2nd Son of Brother JOHN, 2 SARRATT. 
(Spartanburg, Deed Book L, Page 125-6, 12 Aug. 1801, Recorded 12

REDICK ARENDELL, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, convey 
to ANTHONY SARRATT, of Spartanburg Co., South Carolina; for consideration 
of $102 dollars, some 135 acres of land in Spartanburg County, of 
the ALLEN SARRATT, 01 Oct. 1792 Grant from Gov CHARLES PINCKNEY;

BUFFALO CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH
It has been reported the ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, and family were first 
members of the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church, then later in 1805, 
at the age of 42 years, he was "Dismissed" 150 and moved 
his membership to the Providence Baptist Church, both in the now 
Cherokee Co., SC. [REF:#142] 

The Buffalo Baptist Church is located just across the NC-SC State 
line in Cherokee Co., SC. Earliest records of the Church have long 
ago been lost, and no documentary of proof for the exact date the 
Church was organize. Some researchers have written that the Buffalo 
Church was founded in 1772, while others claim it was as early as 
1770. In 1860, the Buffalo Baptist Church appointed one of its members 
to locate and transcribe, all available records of the Church. These 
records only cover the history of the Church from about 1803 to 1860. 
A Mr. PORTER rearranged the earliest extant membership rolls in alphabetical 
format, with notations as to the dates joined, dismissed, excommunicated, 
deceased, etc. and although this membership is undated, it is likely 
some of those on the roll were charter members, or certainly among 
the earliest members of the congregation. A microfilm of PORTER'S 
transcription of these church records are in the Historical Commission 
of the Southern Baptist Convention, Publication No. 3891. This list 
also can be found in the Genealogical Society of Old Tryon Co., NC, 
Vol II, No. 4, Pages 153-163 150

in his Pension Declaration, some 20 years later in Cocke Co., TN.

DANIEL WYATT of Spartanburg, SC. convey to JOHN OLDHANCE, 
of Spartanburg Co., TN. some 160 acres of land on Ashworth Creek; 
boarder of THOMAS WYATT; this is part of 555 acre Grant to CRENSHAW

On the 11th of Feb. 1818, ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, age 54 was still living
in old Spartanburg Co., (Now Cherokee Co.) SC. and this is the last 
record found for ALLEN, 2 SARRETT in South Carolina, where he Sold 
the same 200 acres of land he bought in 1808, to JOSEPH RICHARDS.
This record also indicates the name of his wife "Elizabeth"

ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, age 57 and family left the Spartanburg Co., SC. 
area, about 1818 and was NOT, listed in the 1820 Census for Spartanburg 
Co., SC., there is no 1820 Census, available for Eastern Tennessee. 
This time period of leaving Spartanburg Co., also concurs with ALLEN, 
2 SARRETT'S statement in his 1832 Pension Declaration where 
he stated: "I resided in South Carolina until 1818, when I removed 
to Tennessee where I since have resided, now (1832) I live in 
Cocke County, Tennessee". He was in Cocke Co. before Jul. 1824., ...prs

ALLEN, 2 SARRETT ARRIVES IN COCKE Co., TN
A record shows that on 03 July 1824, a Land Entry, for Cocke Co., 
TN. that ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, age 60,  was already living in what is  (Now 
Civil District #11, Hartford Area..prs) Cocke Co., TN. prior to 1824 
and that 50 acres was surveyed in 1825 and a Land Grant was issue 
on the 10 Aug. 1827. (Land Entry, Deed Book, 14, Page 19, State Archives, 
Nashville, TN. 90 pg156)

50 Acres of land, lying on the waters of Indian Creek, 
County of Cocke, State of Tennessee; including the place wherein said 
ALLEN SARRETT now lives....

In the 1830 Census, Cocke County, Tennessee, which was numerated by 
JOSEPH C. ALLEN and entered on the 8th day of November, 1830, 
Certified by ALEXANDER SMITH and JAMES JENNING. He listed only 899 
Families living in Cocke Co., TN. at this time. A total of 5, 315 
Free White Persons 2,636 were Male and 2,679 were Female. Their 
were 638 Slaves, (300 Males & 338 Females); Free Colored Persons 
were only 95 (54 Males & 41 Females). The town of Newport had 61 
Males and 62 Females, total of 123 Persons. (M-19, State Reel 171, 
Page 268, Line 25; (Now Civil Dist. #11, Hartford Area..prs) 

The ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, age 67 and Wife Elizabeth (Unknown) SARRETT, 
age 67 with two Unmarried Daughters and Son-In-Law HANEY (No Slaves 
Owned) were living adjoining farms of SAMUEL MILLER Family, and 
adjoining Son ALLEN, 3 SARRETT and Wife. Next to them were the ELLIOTT 
THOMAS Family. Sons SAMUEL, 9 SARRETT & WILLIAM, 3 SARRETT were also 
living in Cocke Co., TN. (Federal Reel M- 9, State Reel 180, Page 
268, Line 724)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION from 1832 PENSION DECLARATION
   "....he was born in North Carolina on 11th Dec. 1763 
   and taken to what is now Spartanburg District of South Carolina 
   by his parents where he resided when he was drafted....(1747)" 

   "...he resided in South Carolina from the conclusion 
   of his Service, until the year 1818, when he removed to Tennessee, 
   where he since resided, that NOW (1832) lives in Cocke County in 
   that state..."

   stated that, "...THOMAS HILL, a Minister of Sevier 
   County, Tennessee and a SAMUEL HASKINS, a citizen of Cocke County, 
   Tennessee are, acquainted with him in his present neighborhood and 
   can testify as to his Character for verification...."

   SAMUEL HASKINS can be found in the 1830 Census of Cocke 
   Co., TN. living F.G. 684, Page 267. SAMUEL HASKINS was a Witness 
   with ALLEN, 2 SARRETT in Spartanburg, Deed Book M, Page 380-1, 08 
   Oct. 1811, Recorded 04 Mar. 1811) [REF:#148]

   Page 113, Line 8...prs

In 1836, ALLEN, 2, SARRETT, age 73, can be found on the Cocke County, 
Tax Rolls.

It is believed by this writer that Wife Elizabeth (Unknown) SARRETT, 
died prior to the 1840 Census, for the records indicate that ALLEN, 
2 SARRETT was a Widow in the Census, living with his two Unmarried 
Daughters and Son-In-Law WILLIAM I. HANEY husband of 4th Daughter 
NANCY (SARRETT) HANEY.

In the 16th Oct. 1840 CENSUS,  for Cocke County, (Now Civil Dist. 
#11, Hartford Area..prs) TN. Enumerated by WILLIAM ROBINSON, on 16 
Oct. 1840.  ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, age 77 was listed as "Head of 
Household", No Slaves owned. He was living next to ABRAHAM DAVIS 
and the AMOS MANIS Families. (M-704, State Reel 525, Page 287a, Line 
20)

This 1840 Census entry is the last record found for ALLEN, 2 SARRETT, 
aparently he died prior to 1850. No record of death has been found, 
nor Cemetery location where a headstone marks his grave (the search 
goes on... prs)

In the 1850 Census for Cocke, TN. We find the two Unmarried Daughters

In the 1860 Census for Cocke, TN. We find one Unmarried Daughter DELILAH 
SARRETT and the Widowed NANCY (SARRETT) HANEY with her two daughters.

   H/H 2nd Dau: DELILAH,           age 62 b. 1798 SC
   4th Dau: NANCY (SARRETT) HANEY, age 50 b. 1810 SC
   1st Dau: ELIZABETH HANEY,       age 19 b. 1841 TN
   2nd Dau: MARY A. HANEY,         age 17 b. 1843 TN

This was the last record found of the SARRETT family in Cocke Co., 
TN. The County Court house has b. & d. records only from 1909 to 1911,
1928 to 1930; Marriage., Probate records from 1877; Circuit Court has
Civil records; Registrar has Land Records; The STOKELY Memorial Library,
Newport, TN 37821, has a complete "Genealogical" section. ..prs

old in the 1800 Census, Spartanburg Co., SC; Which was the last record 
found; She would have been about 31 years of age when the family removed 
to Tennessee in 1818.

(1/2 D.I.B. (Degree Indian Blood, Catawaba Nation) <--- Not Proven!

(1st Son of Allen, 2 & Elizabeth (Unknown) Sarrett)

b. about 1788, on his fathers farm, in the old Tryon Co., NC, (believed 
the named Tyre after Tryon Co...prs) along the West side of the 
Broad River, in Spartanburg Co., (Now Cherokee Co.) SC.;
 
It's been reported that he died about 1835, at the young age of 47 years, in 
Grainger Co., TN; Cause Unknown;

Buried Location Unknown, (to me)

At the age 21 years, he married, about 1809, (Based on birth of first Child..prs) 

19 year old Miss Sus-An-Ah MILLER,

(Full Blood D.I.B. (Degree Indian Blood, Cherokee Nation East) <--- Not Proven!

She was the daughter of Unknown Eastern Cherokee parents; 

b. about 1790, Location Unknown in North Carolina;

d. Unknown, but probably in the now Sequoyah County, Oklahoma Western Indian Territory;
