ATCHLEY CEMETERY - SEVIER CO., TENNESSEE
In 1985, when I visted the "Atchley Cemetery" the only markers left are:
ATCHLEY  Emily (SMITH)  No Date  09 Oct 1829    1st wife of Isaac ATCHLEY
ATCHLEY  Infant  No Date  No Date    i/o Isaac & Mary ATCHLEY
 ATCHLEY  Isaac  1788  19 Aug 1854  66 yrs  1st s/o Thomas ATCHLEY
ATCHLEY  Mary (BOWERS)  1805  1865  60 yrs  2nd wife of Isaac ATCHLEY
All stones except infant had slate markers with identical marking as the newer stones, and all three were readable. There were at least 2 additional graves marked with field stones. The Cemetery was unfenced and grazed over by cattle. Their was no way to tell the approximate size of the Cemetery.
To reach the Cemetery from Sevierville, drive East on State Route 66 for about 4.4 miles. Turn right and drive 1.3 miles. The Cemetery is on the left on R. A. KYKER'S (1980) property, in a field behind a large barn. the Cemetery is on top of a hill inderneath a large oak tree.

(Volume VVII, No. 2, Page 33)
The SMHS is pleased to commend Bryan THOMAS for his work in restoring the Atchley Cemetery on the R.A. KYKER property on Alder Branch Road. The project was undertaken by Mr. THOMAS as a community service oroject as a final requirement for his Egle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America.
Mr. THOMAS spent 100 hours clearing debris, resetting the stones, tilling and seeding the area, and erecting a protective fence and gate. He funded the project by collectiong and selling aluminum cans. To ensure futher care for the cemetery Mr. THOMAS has arranged for a neighbor to mow and maintain it.
SMHS President Larry Fox, in noting Mr. THOMAS's excellent work, said "...this project reflects very favorably upon yourself and the Boy Scouts of America, and it is with great pleasure the SMHS commends you and your initiative, determination, preserverence and accomplishment...."
REMEMBRANCE by MARTHA ANN (ATCHLEY) SARRETT [REF:#51, Pg6-7] Anna May DOUGLAS was the Grand-Daughter of Martha Ann (ATCHLEY) SARRETT, The youngest daughter of ISAAC & MARY (BOWERS) ATCHLEY, She was living with her married daughter Mrs. Elizabeth DOUGLAS, who was Anna May DOUGLAS,'s mother. At that time a son, Hugh SARRETT, (my Grandfather ..prs) was living in Kansas City, MO. What Aunt Martha Ann (ATCHLEY) SARRETT, shortly before her death in 1931 told me (Elmina E. GRAHAM) about her life was somewhat as follows:
"My Grandfather was THOMAS ATCHLEY. ISAAC ATCHLEY was my father.
My father had three great big well-built log houses, as nice as any. My brother ROBERT S. ATCHLEY had a big two-story log house. In those early days, each helped the other. All helped one and we had good times. When a man wanted to build a house or a barn, or to clear a field, on the day appointed the men came and had a "log-rolling." The women got meals and had "quilting bees."
The young folks had good times, too. Indoor parties, out-of-door fun and games. In the springtime, trips into the beautiful rhododendron- covered hills where dogwood bushes and many other lovely wild flowers bloomed.
In the fall we had nut-gathering parties. Wild grapes were plentiful. Sometimes they had "corn-shuckings" at the different homes, and "pea-hullings."
Those were good times as well as busy times. Each helped the other. All helped by bearing one another's burdens in those days. Shoes where scarce, and we valued them. Sometimes in the summer, young folks would carry their new shoes as far as the branch near the church, then wash their feet and put on their shoes to go into the Church."
The above was copied from the papers of "Assembled Records for the E.B. and W.E. GRAHAM Family and Relatives" compiled in 1953 by Elmina E. GRAHAM; Copy sent to me prs by JEAN ATCHLEY (GRAHAM) BROWN, of Englewood, Co., Page 6, 28 ....prs
