Subj: Alie Sarratt Thomason Date: Thu, 18 May 2000 12:38:55 AM Eastern Daylight Time From: "J. D. Smith" To: Hello! Thanks very much for the information you provided, you've filled in several gaps in my family tree. I have some information you might be interested in. There are a couple of discrepancies in the information you gave me. I have Alie Thomason's orginal obituary, with a penciled-in date of February 9, 1912. I'll type that at the end of this email in case you're interested. The obituary indicates that she died at Stice, NC. Also, according to all my family records (with the exception of the obituary headline below) and the coat of arms hanging in my house, the surname is "Thomason" with one "s," as opposed to "Thomasson." In addition, the Buffalo Baptist Church is located in North Carolina, on Route 18 near Earl, North Carolina. Here are a few other bits of information you'll be interested in knowing. Newton Nathaniel Thomason b. 26 March 1829 d. 1 December 1907 Information I have on Children of Alie and Newton Thomason: 1. Preston Val Thomason b. 27 September 1855 m. Hattie Wiley/Wylie (b. 26 September 1878, d. 13 April 1954) d. 6 April 1932 2. Sallie Lydia Thomason (I have this obit. as well) b. 10 December 1857 m. John Russell Healan (b. 8 January 1845, d. 24 May 1907) d. 10 March 1935 Those are the only dates I have regarding the children of Alie and Newton Thomason. I didn't even know they had a child named Jacob. Little is known about John Thomason, and I've always heard that he moved to California. All I know of Edgar is that he married Mary Ella Healan. Alie Sarratt Thomason's Obituary: Mother of Mr. E. Thomasson Dies in Her 77th Year Mrs. Alie Thomason, widow of the late Mr. N. N. Thomason and the mother of Mr. E. Thomason, of this city, and of Mrs. Sallie Healan, also of Charlotte, died this morning at 8 o'clock at the home of her son, Mr. Val Thomason, at Stice, a station near Shelby. Mrs. Thomason was 77 years of age, and had been a lifelong and consistent member of the Baptist Church. The three children named above are the sole survivors, her husband having died years ago. Mr. Val Thomason owns and operates a very large merchandise store at Stice and Mr. E. Thomason, of this city, is treasurer and assistant to the vice president of the Piedmont Traction Company. He and his sister, Mrs. Healan, will attend the funeral services, which will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Buffalo Baptist Church. I have more information, but I lack the time to type it up right now. Alie Thomason was my great-great-great grandmother. If you're interested in the rest of that branch of the family tree, I'd be happy to tell you more. If you don't mind telling me, where is it that you live? I thank you greatly for the information you have provided. Sincerely, J. D. Smith
