In my search for my family every road leads back to you thank you for sharing all your information. I am a Pickens/Roberts decendent and my Roberts search has been a long sometimes frustrating battle.
Ans: Thank you for the kind words! My mother told me many years ago that "Sharing" was part of Genealogy, that's what I am trying to do.!
There is a Surratt in my family Irene Pickens married a Booper Surratt in Indian Territory removed from Mississippi although I would like any information you have.
Ans: See SFA family at URL: Click on Redball for More Info.<--- Cooper SURRATT Family Profile.
My question is Do you know of any Roberts connection to the Colberts. I have a site at Familytreemaker.com and list all information I have found.
Ans: See my ROBERTS of SC connection at my GEDCOM On-Line! No record of the COLBERT Family connected to SURRATTS.
My family were owned by the Chickasaw and Choctaw Indians With my 3rd great-grandfather's name STEPNEY ROBERTS listed on the Choctaw Freedmen's roll. Because of your Roberts research you can understand my interest in the Name Stepney Roberts. Any information would be of great help.
I do know that you did not want any inquires and if you do not have the time to response I do understand. I still want to take this time to say Thank You for sharing as tri-racial searches do prove to be quite difficult.
Ans: Where did you get the impression I don't "want any queries"
PS I have referenced your site in mine as the information you have provided was quite helpful to me.
Ans: No problem, thank for the "hot-link"

Cooper Surratt was my grandfather and he was also a Choctaw Indain. He married Margaret Pickens, also Choctaw. They were not full blood Indain, but I don't know what part of the country they originated from. All I know is from Oklahoma.
They had two daughters, Irene and Annie SURRATT. Annie was my mother, I think she was born in Kinta, Haskell Co., OK. I know she was mostly raised there. Is it possible that your family tree will tie into this?

I am looking for information on a Cooper Surratt. He was a good frind of my grat-grandfathr, Henry Mouser. My grandfather was born in 1862 in Sabastian county, Ark. There is a period of his life we know nothing about other than he was raised for shor time by an Indian woman with Cooper Surratt. My Grandfather ended up in Oklahoma. (Indian territory) My mother said he often spoke of Cooper SURRATT, and we are hoping to fill in some of the years of his life when he was young.

Hey folks!
Let's get this list going strong:-) I am an avid researcher living in Oklahoma City and would be happy to help out anyone that has a lawman they are looking for info on. I have an extensive database with over 800 names which I have compiled over years of research and each includes the reference in which I found the name. I will begin posting a name or two on a regular basis for your reading pleasure. I hope you all enjoy them:-)

Hughes, Tyner
Tyner Hughes was a deputy U.S. marshal for the Western District of Arkansas in 1885 and operated primarily in the Choctaw Nation. In May 1886, Hughes arrested outlaw Belle Starr on charges of robbery. Sam Starr surrendered to Hughes on the streets of Fort Smith on October 11, 1886. In November 1886, Hughes with fellow marshal West Harris and three possemembers went in pursuit of whiskey peddlars James Hart and Henry Ewing in Sans Bois County, Choctaw Nation. A gunfight ensued between the two factions north of Blaine in which several shots were fired. Hart was severely wounded in the gunfight, but both survived. None of the marshals were hit.

Hey there Cecil,
That book I found only in the Cameron University Library at Lawton, OK. It was printed in 1971 and might be a hard one to find. Below I've transcribed the entry from which I drew the information. The case file which I cited is for Cooper Surratt who was a lawman in the vicinity of Whitefield, I.T. He is buried in the cemetery there though his stone is in a decaying condition:-(

Susan Muncreif and James C. Monore McClain started the family that had James McClain, he had William Alexander McClain.
William Alexander had George William McClain, he was my grandfather, he had my father George Walter McLain.
Our dad and his children were not mention in the books that we have seen.
Grandpa George William McClain was a Babtish Minister so he only told of two marriages.
The first he had a son named Joy, his mother died, so he married the second and had a daugther named June.
We are very upset because he marriaged Lizzie White and had Aunt Pokie and our dad George Walter McLain.
Lizzie's mother was Pauline (McCurtain) White, her father was Edmund McCurtain a elected chief of the Choctaw Nation, as were two of his brothers Jackson and Green McCurtain.
If you have any info on James C. Monore McClain PLEASE let me know,we can not find out anything on him. I would love to see the McCurtain's in your surnames.

Hi! My name is Pamela Kennon.my e-mail is Click on Redball for More Info.<--- pjmclain@msn.com I do not know much about a Cooper Surrant. It maybe the one that you are talking about. My gGrandmother Pauline (McCurtain) White married John Walker White jr.They had five children, one that was my grandmother.
John Walker White jr. parents were John Walker White and Martha Riddle. Pauline and John divorced in the mid 1890's. Somewhere in 1899 Pauline and a Cooper Surrant had a daugther Julia Lee White b. Aug 22,1901 and is buried in the Sans Bois Cemetery with her Mother Pauline.
I have Cooper Surrant as (French) b. about April 15,1863. I do not know if this is the same one.
Pauline (McCurtain)White died in April 1,1902 and is buried at the Sans Bois Cemetery.
Her father was Edmund McCurtain,Chief of the Choctaw Nation. His brothers were also,Jackson and Green McCurtain. If you could be of any help I would greatly love that.
I hope that maybe you might know something.
Thank You for you attention. Very Truly Pam

Hello to any and all Surratt descendants. I am looking for someone descended from Lucy Emachaya & Henry Surratt and who knows where the old homestead used to be, off of Emachaya Creek near the Canadian River in Whitefield, OK, Haskell County.
My great-great grandfather, Franklin Pierce West, was shot and killed there in a gun battle with Sam Starr. I would really like to see the area where this occurred.
Please email me at Click on Redball for More Info.<--- cookiemeister26@yahoo.com
Thank You, Karen West Sanchez,
Karen,

I am not a Surrat but am researching several families from the Choctaw nation. Your information on the website has some errors.
First. Click on Redball for More Info.<--- Jefferson D. SURRATT was first married to a Nancy in 1885,
she was a white woman, testimony by Simon Lewis in his daughter's Dawes file says as much, this is in direct contrast to the testimony on behalf of Fena McDaniels stating she was the daughter of a Choctaw man (jennette) and Etha a white woman.
Therefore the children buried in Whitefield 1885-1886 are not the children of Fena but of Nancy.
(See: Reference Dawes file of Annie Belle Surratt and her husband Jacob Ledon (Dawes file #3175)

Second, in the Dawes file of Cooper Surrat, and of Pauline (McCurtain) White are letters stating the child Julia Surrat was a child of the couple, but they never married. Also, in the file for Margaret Pickens, there never was a marriage of Margaret to Cooper, although she had two children by him, she then went on to have a daughter in 1902 with a Joe Jefferson.
In 1896 she is listed as Margaret Thompson, but letters in her dawes file name her as Margaret Pickens, the daughter of David Pickens and granddaughter of Edmond Pickens. The cemetery at Whitefield has Julie Surrat the daughter of Cooper and Pauline, you have it listed as the child of Cooper and Margaret, that is an error.
I am also curious as to the source for the marriage of Henry and Lucy with her father as Emachaya.
I do know that Sampson McKinney signed affadavit's of two of Margaret Louise Surrat Hall's children as a second cousin, this would come from Henry's wife Lucy. Sampson and his brother Richard were wards at one time of Jefferson D. Surratt (the first).
