Railroad. Three Young Men Are Dead As A Result Of Motor Car Colliding With Automobile ACCIDENT NEAR CLINTON, [Custer Co., OK. 73681] MONDAY. Men Were On Way To State Fair When They Were Struck By Motor Car On C.& O.W. Three young men by the names of Jewel Sheets, Irvin Laughmiller, and Reuben Surrett of near Stafford [Unknown Co.] were on their way to the Oklahoma State Fair last Monday morning when the car in which they were riding collided with the motorcar on the C.& O.W. at the crossing west of Clinton. It is said that at the crossing there is a railroad cut and also a cut in the wagon roads making it difficult for either the motor men or a motorist to see the other. It is also stated that the grade before reaching the crossing is steep, ordinarily a motorist has to take low, which means that a car driver is likely to misjudge the time it requires to make the crossing, and the increased noise of the motor makes it difficult to hear the whistle on the motor car. Laughmiller and Surrett were killed instantly, while Sheets was fataly injured. He was taken to the Clinton hospital for treatment where he died Wednesday morning.
