It is not known (the exact date) when MARY C. (SMITH) SARRETT and
her two children left the Sugar Creek home and moved in her parents
JOHN T. and ANNA S. (McLAUGHLIN) SMITH, they both died in 1930.
The "SMITH HOME PLACE" was located at 3021 Bellefountaine
Ave. in Kansas City, Paul R. , Sr. would have been 13 years old and
his sister MARY ANN would have been 14, in 1930
On 15 Dec. 1931, Paul R. SARRETT, Sr. was 14 years old when his Grandmother (He had never met) MARTHA A. (ATCHLEY) SARRETT died at the age of 83 years in Sevier Co., TN. On 26 March 1934, Paul, Sr. age 17, took out an $125 Life Insurance Policy No. 117402545, from the "Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, New York City, New York. The premium on this policy was 5 cents a week. On 4 Nov. 1943, he changed the beneficiary to his wife M. "Lucille" (WILSON) SARRETT. When he was 18 years of age (1935), Paul RAYMOND R. SARRETT, Sr. went to Maryville, Missouri where he was working at the Conservation Corp Camp (C.C.C.). He worked their among some friends which lasted the remainder of his life, such as "PENN" PENDLETON, (later married MARJORI GOODSON; CHARLES HAMILTON, (later married SHIRLY PAGENT) NORMAN "Flattop" KEETON 1913-1981, (later married 1st. JONNIE Unknown, 2rd. ALMA Unknown).
Paul , Sr. & Lucille'S EARLY MARRIAGE LIFE: My parents and two sisters lived only a short time at the 4213 East 23rd. & Jackson Ave. home, this was where PaulA SUE SARRETT was born on Thur. 7th of November 1940, (Nov. 02nd. Based on C.O.D.) she never left the "K.C. General Hospital, No. 1", she died 26 days later on 28 Nov. 1940 of what Dr. DEWEY R. THRONE described as PURLENT HYDROCEPHALUS normally called "Water on the Brain". PaulA SUE SARRETT was buried on 30th Nov. 1940, in the Mount Washington Cemetery, located on Truman Road and Blueridge Blvd. She is located on the same Lot of her Grandmother MARY C. (SMITH) SARRETT and Grandfather HUGH E. SARRETT (Lot So. 1/2 of #170). By the summer of 1941 they removed again to a small house located at 2802 Wenzel Ave. Kansas City.
The reason is not known for why he applied for but, I have a record of an "Delayed or Special" Certificate of Birth which Paul R. SARRETT , Sr. applied for on 27th June 1943, that he listed as "School Record - Public Schools, Kansas City, Mo. School Document Dated 16th Jan. 1931". This can be assumed that he at least completed the 6th grade, he would have been 13 years old. The Grade-School closest to the "SMITHS" Bellefountaine Ave. home would have been located on Benton and 30th. name unknown. The SARRETT , Sr. family moved again by late 1943 next door to a bigger house at 2804 Wenzel Ave. where on Monday 15th of November 1943 the 5th child and second son ERMAL HUGH SARRETT was born. ERMAL was named after both his Grand-fathers, ERMAL L. WILSON and HUGH E. SARRETT. The last child JANET LEE SARRETT was born at the Hospital on Sunday afternoon of the 4th of February 1945. This was the end of WWII and the War effort at North America was shutdown, so Paul R. SARRETT , Sr. went to work for "Standard Plating Works" located at 15th and Eastern Ave. Kansas City.
With the new job with Western Union Paul R. SARRETT, Sr. bought the first "NEW" car we ever owned. With a $444.57 Net trade in value on our 1951 used Chevrolet and $254.56 cash down payment, he bought a new 1955, 6 Cyl., 4-Door (Blue & White) "Belair" Chevrolet for $3,025.09 from the R. B. CLARK CHEVROLET CO., located at 6300 Johnson Dr., Mission Kansas. We paid 36 monthly installments of $64.61 starting with 15 Oct. 1955 (It was paid in full on 12 Sep. 1958). The job with Western Union only lasted some 14 months. In March 1956 he worked for Waverly Products, Inc. He also worked with his brother-in-law ERNIE DeVASHER sanding floors, (who always paid him with cash). For 1956 they both had a total income of $ 6,190.44 before taxes, $ 5,844.15 after taxes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Death of Paul R. SARRETT , Sr.:
At the age of 50 years, 9 months and 15 days, on Wed. June 19, 1968 Paul RAYMOND SARRETT , Sr. died of burns and smoke inhalation at the Barclay Apartment Hotel, located at 1010 East Twenty- Seventh St., Kansas City, Missouri, where he was employed as a maintenance man for 7 years (1961-1968).Rosary recitation was held on Friday 8:00 o'clock p.m. at the Gates Funeral Home, State Line and 41st., funeral services was at 10:00 o'clock a.m. on Saturday June 20, 1968. Paul RAYMOND SARRETT , Sr. was laid to rest at the Brooking Cemetery, Raytown, Missouri. My mother, two of my three sisters BARBARA and JANET, my brother ERMAL HUGH and myself attended these services.
A "High Mass" was requested by "Neighbors" at 8 o'clock on Thur. July 03, 1968 at his church St. Theresa Church, 5814 Euclid Ave., Kansas City, Mo. Officiated by Father GARNETT.
WHEN GOD CREATED FATHERS, HE NEW THAT SHOULDERS SHOULD BE BROAD, HANDS BIG
When the good Lord was creating fathers, he started with a tall frame. And a female angel nearby said, "What kind of father is that?" "If you're going to make children so close to the ground, why have fathers up so high?" "He won't be able to shoot marbles without kneeling, tuck a child in bed without bending, or even kiss a child without a lot of stooping?" And God smiled and said, "Yes, but if I make him childsize, who would children have to look up to?"
And when God made the father's hands, they were large and sinewy. And the angel shook her head sadly and said, "Do you know what you're doing? Large hands are clumsy. They can't manage diaper pins, small buttons, rubber bands on pony tails or even remove splinters caused by baseball bats."
And God smiled and said, I know, but they are large enough to hold everything a small boy empties from his pockets at the end of a day-yet small enough to cup a child's face in his hands."
Then God molded long, slim legs and broad shoulders. The angel nearly had a heart attack. "Boy, this is the end of the week, alright," she chuckled. "Do you realize you just made the father without a lap? How is he going to pull a child close to him without the child falling between his legs?"
And God smiled and said, "A mother needs a lap. A father needs strong shoulders to pull a sled, balance a child on a bicycle, or hold a sleepy head on the way home from the circus.
God was in the middle of creating two of the largest feet anyone had ever seen when the angel could contain herself no longer. "That's not fair. Do you honestly think those large boats are going to dig out of bed early in the morning when the baby cries? Or walk through a small birthday party without crushing at least three of the guests?"
And God smiled and said, "They'll work. You'll see. They'll support a small child who wants to ride a horse to Banbury Cross, or scare off mice at the summer cabin, or display shoes that will be a challenge to fill."
God worked throughout the night, giving the father few words, but a firm, authoritative voice, eyes that saw everything, but remained calm and tolerant.
Finally, almost as an afterthought, God add tears to the father. Then he turned to the angel and said, "Now are you satisfied that he can love as much as a mother?"
The angel shutteth up.
MOTHER'S PRAYER
Make me a wise mother, O Lord. Keep me calm and give me patience to bear the small, irritating things in the daily routine of life. Give me tolerance and understanding to bridge the gulf between my generation and that of my children.
Let me not be too ready to guide my children's stumbling fee, but allow me to be ever near to bind their bruises. Give me a sense of humor that I may laugh with them but never at them.
Let me refrain from preaching with words. Keep me from forcing their confidences, but give me a sympathetic ear when my children come to me.
Help me teach them that life must be replete with victories. Make me humble.
Keep my children close to me, O Lord, though miles may separate us. And let Thy light so shine upon me that they, too, will perceive Thy glory.
Amen.
My MOTHER'S CREED I WILL REMEMBER
God could not be everywhere so he made mothers.
I WILL BE TRUE
There are those who trust me and pattern their lives from mine.
I WILL BE REVERENT
"Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Practice this in thought, word, deed.
I WILL BE PURE
"Blessed are the pure in heart. I shall so order my thoughts and acts.
I WILL BE TOLERANT
Show consideration to under privileged, segregated, and afflicted persons.
I WILL BE COURAGEOUS
Never condoning evils which I can help correct.
I WILL BE LOYAL
To church, family and community. Always trying to put "first" things FIRST.
I WILL BE HONEST
Never take unfair advantage when opportunity permits.
I WILL BE FAITHFUL
Fulfill to the best of my ability each promise I make.
I WILL BE FORGIVING
Family ties cemented by prayers are life buoys. Mercy is twice bless.

NOBODY KNOWS but MOTHER How many buttons are missing today?
How many toys are left in her way?
How many thimbles and spools has she missed?
How many burns on each little fist?
How many bumps to be cuddled and kissed?
Nobody Knows But MOTHER.
THANK YOU MOTHER For all your loving care, Source: Paul R. Sarrett, Jr., Dec. 1986
For every anxious prayer,
For every precious look,
For every step you took,
For every waiting night,
For every kindly light,
For tact and awkward ways,
For love on trying days,
Today and now and here,
We thank you, Mother dear.
WHICH LOVED HER BEST "I LOVE YOU, MOTHER," said little John; Then, forgetting his work, his cap went on, And he was off to the garden swing, Leaving his mother the wood to bring.
"I LOVE YOU, MOTHER," said rosy Nell; "I love you better than tongue can tell"; Then she teased and pouted full half the day, Till her mother rejoiced when she went out to play.
"I LOVE YOU, MOTHER," said little Fan; "To-day I'll help you all I can"; How glad I am that school doesn't keep, So she rocked the baby tell it fell asleep.
Then, stepping softly, she took the broom, And swept the floor, and dusted the room. Busy and happy all day was she,
Helpful and cheerful as a child could be. "I LOVE YOU, MOTHER," again they said, Three little children going to bed. How do you think that mother guesses, Which of them really loved her best?
