Sir, I just looked at this page: ID-232 where my son is listed in your ancestry database. I am Troy Curtis Sarratt, [John-M-FG 63] and Samuel Curtis Sarratt is, indeed, my son - however, his mother is NOT Edith Evans (my first wife), but my current-third-and-final wife, Cynthia Ellen Jones, whose family hails from Macpherson, Kansas.
Being not very well versed in the field of geneology, but wanting to know more about it - how far back do you know my/our family?

Hi
I have a lot of info that is getting me nowhere.Maybe you can help.
I recently learned my biological father is Willard Surrett.
He doesn't really seem like anyone I want to get involoved with from what I have been able to find out, so I'm trying to learn more about the rest of his family and my roots. I keep coming to dead ends though.
His mother was Mary Willard Buffalo Surrett, born 9/30,1903 in Lonoke County AR.
Her mother was Mary Elizabeth Sims - she was 57 in the 1920 census where it says she and her mother and father were born in Alabama.
Her father was John N. Buffalo born in N Carolina around 1952. The census lists his father as born in United States and his mom N. Carolina.
Willards father was Arthur Faris Surrett,[SFA©-FG 2244] born 7/10,1895 in Water Valley [Lafayette Co.] Mississippi.
His father was Benjamin Franklin Surrett [SFA©-FG 889] ( who I can't seem to find anything about)from Alabama.
Arthur's mother was Georgie Evans.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Paul
Thank you for the information. Here is what I have.
Arthur F. Surrett married Mary Willard Buffalo Surrett on 1/17/1920.
The following are their children.
     1. Louise Surrettt
     2. Howard A. Surrett
     3. Georgie E. Surrett
     4. John E. Surrett
     5. Homer C. Surrett B 2 April, 1940 D Apr 22, 1983SS385-38-1426
     6. Hugh A. Surrett B19 Nov, 1921 D 3 Nov, 1994SS 518-20-5844(WWII Veteran)
     7. Ronald Surrett of Little Rock. [Pulaski Co., AR.]
     8. Arthur Surrett of Romance [White Co., AR.]
     9. Willard Surrett (last known in Pensacola Florida)

He [Willard] is my biological father. I have never met him nor seen a photograph, which is why I'm trying to research this family.
Hugh it said in an obituary column in the AR Democrat/Gazette, was married to Rachel Surrett, had a daughter, Narma Wasser of Michigan and a sister Betty Lindsley of Carlisle; two grandchildren, Jonathan Wasser and Melanie Wasser of Michigan.
I know that one of these brothers, I believe Ronald, is slightly retarded. I know that one of the sisters died soon after birth I think.
Also Mary Willard Buffalo Surrett was born near Water Valley, Lafayette Co., MS. I have info on her parents, but figure you are more interested in the Surrett side.

Let me explain my position. I am researching families that were in Hamilton and Isbell township and who were buried in Hamilton Cemetery. This includes the Surrett and Buffalo families. Hi Paul
I had written to you a few years back about my ggg grandmother, ah Shratt (now know that it is Sarratt) [SFA©-FG 2237] I have a correction to be made on your gen connect web site. Her Husband James S. Robinson died 10 Jan 1898 in Western Grove, Newton Co., Arkansas. He is buried in the Western Grove Cemetery, along with many of his descendants.
I sure appreciate the work that you have done. I would like to include it with recognition to you for your work within my family tree. But will not do so without your permission. I would also like to know if at all possible can I obtain some of the documents that you may have pertaining to my family line. I will gladly share with you what I have.
Will be waiting to hear from you.
One other question....... I was always told that Elizabeth Ann Robinson, daughter to Sarah Sarratt and James Robinson was Cherokee. (i know so has everyone else), but do you have any know of any of the ancestors being of Indian Heritage. I know that Aunt Frankie, oldest daughter to Elizabeth and her husband really looks of Indian Ancestry.
Windi Spears, windi@yournet.com
Windi,
You have my permission to use my name as one of your resources.
All of my documents are available on line.
Mrs. Sarah (SURRATT) ROBINSON is the 2nd d/o of (See: James,4 & Mary (Unknown) SURRATT of McNairy Co., TN. we have no record of them "Connected" to the Cherokee Nation.

Thanks for your interest! My great grandmother was Betty Ann McKeehan, sometimes written as McKehan.I have a photo of her brother where he wrote his name as BJ McKeehan. My mother remembers his first name was Benjamin.Anyway,my great grandmother Betty Ann McKeehan - Sarratt, was born on 7 August, 1855 in Georgia. Her death was in Bluff City, Nevada Co. AR.I went to Washington AR and was able to visit their geneology center.I have a list of people are buried at the Ebeneezer Cemetary, near or in Bluff City.Betty AnnMcKeehan Sarrett died 11 Jan 1941.I know that her husband Samuel Jackson Sarratt died in the civil war, I have not attemted to locate his date of death, and I do not have any information to indicate that he was buried with his wife, but he was more than likely buried where he fell during the war.My mother said that Betty Ann received a confiderate widows pension until her death. Most of her children never married, how ever my grandmother Luddie Sarrett Plyler gave birth to 12 children, all but one survived to adulthood. My mother is Eva Plyler Williams born 9 June 1919, she was the 6th child of Luddie Viola Sarrett Plyler and her only husband Jonas Marion Plyler.
I hope that this has been helpful, let me know if you find anymore info on our families.

Thank you, Paul.
It’s very fortunate for us that you have taken this upon yourself. My twin brother Dan Sarrett and I are very intrigued with your findings.
My grandmother, Vivian (Johnson) Sarrett, who lived to be 106 told me that my grandfather, William Jackson Sarrett’s “people” were of French Canadian descent.
But had said his “people” came from Georgia. She mentioned that I had a great grandmother of Indian descent, but I understand from Dan that was not a “blood” relative of ours. Vivian (Johnson) Sarrett was from Prescott, [Nevada Co.] Arkansas and her parents owned a lot of forest property and probably sold to Williamette Industries or one of the large forest product corporations.I worked for Willamette at one time, but couldn’t nail it down.I now work for Weyerhaeuser another forest industries corporation.Small world.

I am replying to your email about Molly "Etta" Sarrett's maiden name. I do not know what sort of info you have that gives her maiden name as other than Barksdale, but my dad (Dale Sarrett- 6th child) says that he does NOT think there was ever a marriage"certificate".
The family Bible is with my Aunt Ila Sarrett Cuples and it only lists the date of marriage. The Sarrett's weren't much on getting paperwork on marriages, births, etc. since they were off in the boonies and trips into town were a major event in those days. (All 11 of the children were born at home with NO doc in attendance.)
My dad never even had a birth certificate so when he went into the Army in 1942 he HAD to have one- so, his dad, "Jap" Sarrett, went to the courthouse to fill out the required info and had it notarized. You will notice on the enclosed attachment that "Jap" filled out the paperwork and it is his signature that states his wife as Molly Etta Barksdale.
My dad and his sis (Ila) and brother (Sam) who are all still living, remember various Barksdale uncles, aunts, and cousins and especially grandmom Eliza May Barksdale, third wife of Hezekiah Tigg Barksdale 1836-1901.
I have plenty of info to update your files on this end of the Sarrett clan if you want it.

I'm excited to learn so much about them. If you get any information that might be interesting regarding the Sarratts, can you send it my way. I live in Vallejo, Ca.
The Indian must have been strong in the family. My Grandfather had white skin, but looked dead on like an Indian. My looks just like him and I look just like her.

Hello Paul, thank you for getting back to me.
Mandy Elnora Sarratt was bon July 27, 1887 in Mt. Pleasant, Searcy, Arkansas. She died in Alameda on Novemebr 9, 1971.
She gave me my first potato head when I was 2 years old. Her Husband was Crawford B. Taylor 1866-1968... He was married several times from what I understand, but married Nora 2x- that was what people called her.
Her father and mother were Boston Eli Sarratt Born July 1841 in Alabama, died 16 of Aug 1922 in Witt Springs, Searcy, Arkansas.
Mercella Angelina Wise was born March 1845 in Georgia and died on 27 Oct 1927 in Witt Springs, Searcy, Arkansas.
Boston Eli Sarratts Parents were Jonathan Mills Sarrat born in 1821 in Randolph North Carolina and died Aug 4the 1882...pretty sure he was a slave owner.
His wife was Delilah (full-blooded Cherokee woman) born 1828 in North Carolina and died in Jacksn County, Alabama in 1890. Jonathan Suratts father was also a Jonathan Surratt...I' have this lineage already.
I just wanted to get as much info on Delilah as Possible. I can't understand why their are no records for her birth or family pictures or something.
If you can help me find some Information on her I'd appreciate it.
Family photos for any of these people. Are you and I related?
I have always had this need to know about their history.
My mom gave me up when I was 14. I know that Crawford B. Taylor was a bootlegger and an alcoholic and so was his fathe [sic Father] supposedly from the ozarks they say...??? I can trace his roots to 1637 with Thomas Taylor, Isle of White..., Virginia.
Thank you so much for your help!

I have some Boyd's from Tn, Ark, and Okla... the names are simular but not exact. Maybe there is a connection somewhere. Here is what I have...
My gr grandfather was Burton James Boyd, born in Ark, and died in Okla. He was the son of Charles Marion Boyd and Tennessee Texanna Campbell.
Charles was born in Ark, and died is Okla. His parents were Jacob Boyd and Dorcus Alexander, Jacob was born in Ark. and died in Ark. His father was Willis Boyd born in Tn, died in Ark. Charles siblings were Mary S or Mary Lucinda Jane married to Thomas Oxford, Samuel John, Willice Newton married to Edna Palatine Hash, James F or C married to Lela Blackburn, Nancy Ann married to J.H. Johnson. All died in Ark. except Charles and James, they died in Okla. Not sure if they connect. Just thought I'd give you what I have. Notice all the simular names? Good Luck in your research,

My gr gr grandfather, Willis Boyd, b. 1806
(perhaps in McNairy County or Warren County, TN) was first married to Lucinda Surratt maybe about 1825.
He later married a Lucinda Waltrip, my gr gr grandmother.
I don't know if Surratt died or if they were divorced.Do you know?
I am thinking she may have died since their children were listed in later censuses after he married
Waltrip.
With both wives having the same first name it makes it a little confusing.
Also, I'm not sure which of the children belong to which wife but if I could find out what happened to Surratt and when, I could probably figure that out.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the information.
I descend from the Willis Boyd / Lucinda Waltrip marriage.
My gr grandmother was Darcadia Boyd.
I can't add a whole lot to what you sent me since I am a newbie at genealogy and computer.I think most of what I have on the Surratts came from the internet so you probably know much more than I have. This is what I do have on Willis Boyd. According to the book "Cemeteries of Washington County, AR Vol. III" Willis BOYD was born February 4, 1806 and died October 31, 1882.
He is buried in Friendship Cemetery about four miles east of Springdale, AR in Row 12. His wife, Lusinda, was born August 10, 1817 and died July 16, 1896. She also is buried in Friendship Cemetery.Springdale is about a two hour drive from our home and we plan to go and take pictures. I do not know if they have a readable tombstone. We'll see.
There were two other children listed in the 1850 Washington County, AR census (Prairie Twp.) whose ages were between the Boyd/Surratt children and the Boyd/Waltrip children.According to a book in the Fayetteville, AR library on the history of Washington County families, Lucinda Waltrip was first married to Ezekiel Boyd, brother of Willis and Ezekiel died. However, it did not list any children. These two children were Caroline and Nancy. Their ages were 12 and 10 in the 1850 census. With all of the children two years apart and both wives with the same name, it is hard to sort out. I need to spend some time in the Washington County Courthouse looking for marriage certificates when I have some time. This may clear up some things. If I find anything else I will send it.Keep in touch. Jimmie Smith Bacon

Paul,
I have been trying to trace my Cherokee Indian ancestors. My great great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee Indian. Her name was Amelia Mavis or Mavis Amelia Downs. She married John Haynes and went to Kentucky. She had nine children, so I was told. My great grandmother's name was Leona Josephine Haynes. (1/2 D.I.B.) She married William Jefferson Sarrett. They had eleven children My grandmother was the youngest. Her name was Mary Dorthula Sarrett. (1/4 D.I.B.) She married William Taylor. My dad's name is Homer Taylor.
I contacted the Cherokee Bureau of Indian Affairs in Oklahoma. They sent me a chart to try to trace my background, but I don't know where to go from here.

My name is Renee Mathis and I am writing on behalf of my Grandmother In-Law, Barbara Lovins who is a descendent of Margaret Emily that was married to J.J.F. Suratt. She has spoken with a woman that has got a hold of some of your research and in it she found where Margaret Emily was buried at Hicks Cemetery and she would like to know where you found your information not that she is disputing your research but she has been looking with her daughter off and on for years now and could not find where she was buried. She would appreciate you sharing where she can look and make a copy of the recordsfor her files.
     [Ans:
Another question she has is about William Jefferson Surrett 1st being married to an Lenoa Josephine Haynes and second to Josephine Smothers in 1883 is that your assumption also and if you have documentation that you would not mind sharing it would be nice.
[Ans: We only show one marriage for (Brother of J.J.F.) Wm. Jeff c1883 to See Miss Leona Josephine HAYNES ..prs
Last but not least where would you go the find the information on W.P. Surrett (that was the father) in a census of 1880 that was buried on nigger hill in Georgetown, [White Co.] AR.
Please forgive me if I have the names spelled wrong or this is incorrect information, she is not yet hooked up online so she asked me to do this for her I hope I have asked the questions she asked me to, and that you will not mind to much sharing your information my mother belongs to our local society and I know how sometimes the information takes you forever to find , We have gone as far as to go to the State Library and Archives in Nashville Tennessee for my mother to look up two things and print documents and I know in can be frustrating and sometimes and expense. So we are not asking you to send us at your expense anything you have. Just tell her where she can go and make copies.
I would like to Thank You in advance for taking your time to just read this and I sure hope you can help her out. Any information that you don't have Please feel free to ask us, I don't think she has anything different but you just never know.

Paul,
I sent an e-mail the other day after finding information about myself on your web page.My name is Rodney Kent Prouty. According to my birth certificate I was born in Searcy, Arkansas on May 7th, 1946 to Louise Surratt. I think she was unmarried at the time. After my birth she was married a short time to a R.W. McCasland. She later married Harvey (NMI) Prouty who was born in Pilger, Nebraska.
Until 1954 I was Rodney Kent Surratt when Harvey Prouty adopted me. Louise Prouty died in 1996 in Portland Oregon and Harvey Prouty died in 1997. I remember her telling me that we were related, I think she said kin, to Mary Surratt.
I have some legal paper work concerning some distant relatives named Jenkins and myself about property ownership in the mid 1950s in Georgetown Arkansas.
Isn't there a connection between the Jenkins name and Mary Surratt. If I can be of assistance contact me.

Here is what I have so far and will send more as I update our tree. The Proutys are a very hard bunch to find, and are still not talked about among the family.
Harvey Prouty/Louise Surratt marriage (unknown date as of yet) produced 2 more children
1) Deborah Kay Prouty b.5 Jul 1951 m.5 Jul 1969 to Michael Alan Leach b. 1 Jan 1948
2)Tony (Anthony?) ? Prouty unknown birthdate but will continue to look
Also, I have down that Louise's mother's name was Valley Mae Starks, daughter of an Oscar Starks and Hannah *unknown*. Harvey Prouty's parents were Harvey Prouty (d. 1984) and Juanita Miller.
Louise's husband and Louise are buried in Williamette National Cemetery in Portland/Clackamas (can't remember which city as they border each other) Oregon. I can even send the plot number after our next visit home.
I hope this helped some, I have just started this project and have not gotten far... your research has helped quite a bit. If you'd like Deborah Kay's children and grandchildren, let me know and I can furnish that information as well. Angela Leach, E-Mail: CelticFrogLady@aol.com
