This site is all about a branch of Rowe's who seemed to come
from a George Rowe, Sr. from Barrington, New Hampshire, he had George
Rowe, Jr. who then went to Maine, and George Junior's son, Alden then headed for
California to look for gold.
We hardly know anything about this Branch of Rowe's. I feel quite
lucky that I have found some really good information on my great great
grandfather, Alden B. Rowe. Alden and
wife (Vesta Victoria
Williams) & family and brother, Calvin Rowe left for California
very late in the gold rush era, 1865. It has been said that he lost
all contact with the family back in Maine. My great grandfather,
Alfred B. Rowe was born in
Challenge Mill, Eureka County, CA back then.
Eventually, Alden & family ended up
in Eugene, Oregon where their is a house known as the
"Alden B. Rowe" house.
The family also spent some time in Toledo County, Oregon where my
grandfather, Orvin Earl Rowe was born.
Special thanks to
Art Kelly of the
Yaquina Historical Society
(Lincoln County, Oregon) he found a document listing
Olive Bumpus as Alden's
mother. This is exciting, as our cousin Don Sales, thinks that she descends from the young man, Edward
Bompasse who came over on the ship Fortune back in the 1600's.
This ship was only the second ship to land in Plymouth Colony. (I
have yet to prove it all! I will soon share all!)
So join us as we travel through the journey of sharing who made us who
and what we are today. This includes all the lines as far back as I can
get them on my paternal side of the family. The list is not complete,
but here are a few: Clapp,
McClaskey,
Murphey,
Nelson, and
Stuart. Click on the surnames hyperlink to see the whole list of
surnames.
If you can add some data not only am I willing to share, but I'd love
to see what you have. After All... Aren't we one great human family?
I have recently gotten hold of some pictures of what I believe are
Nelson's of
Albert Lea, MN. I know that I am related to all of these people.
Please help me identify them!! Thanks!!!
1790
Census of New Hampshire. I have looked specifically for Rowe's and
transcribed the records in an effort to look for clues as to who might be George
Rowe, Senior's father. Maybe Abraham Rowe???
