To all whom it may concern - Know ye that Robert A. Welch a private of Captain Andrew Offutt's Company (B) fifth Regiment of Kentucky Cavalry Volunteer who was enrolled on the tenth day of October one thousand eight hundred and sixty one to serve three years or during the war is hereby Discharged from the Service of the United States this 3rd day of May 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky by reason of expiration of time of service (no objection to his being reenlisted is known to exist) said Robert A. Welch was born in Macon Co. in the State of Tennessee is twenty two years of age, five feet six inches, he is fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair and by occupation when enlisted a farmer. Given at Louisville, Ky this third day of May 1865.
