In the name of God Amen, Being feeble in bodily health but sound in mind I make this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all & others.

Item, I make give & bequeath unto my son James H. Patterson all my property and effects both of personal and real.

Item, If the said James H. Patterson dies before coming of lawful age and without bodily heirs then my property both personal and real is to be equally divided between my brothers & sisters or their bodily heirs. My Clifton farm not to be sold for less than twenty dollars per acre. I appoint my Bro Doc John Patterson my Executor and guardian with my father Jas. H. Patterson as advisor. My guardian is not to remove my son Jas H. Patterson from under the control & guardian of my father and mother so long as they may choose to exercise the same over & for him. Given under my hand & seal this 28th Nov in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred & fifty four. ? W. Patterson (Seal)

A Codicil to the above,

Item, I give & bequeath to my sister V. T. Patterson the Bellana's mare's Yearling Colt.

Item, to my sisters Eliza & Katherine Patterson my Black mare jointly.

Item, to my mother, I give & bequeath my Negroe woman Minerva during Mother's natural life this provision this codicil to my last Will & Testament is made for the use & benefit especially of my Jas H. Patterson. Given under my hand & seal this 19th of December A. D. Eighteen hundred & fifty four. ?. W. Patterson (Seal)

The last will and testament of William Patterson was this day produced in open court for probate and was duly proved by the oaths of ?. L. Patterson & E. Patterson likewise the Codicil thereto and is ordered to be recorded and thereupon John Patterson the Executor named in said will appeared in open court together with J. H. Patterson & J. R. A. Tompkins and entered into and acknowledged their bond to the State of Tennessee in the sum of Ten Thousand dollars conditioned as the law directs and was duly qualified.
