In the name of God Amen.
I Asa Hodges of the County of Sumner and State of Tennessee being weak in body, but of sound and perfect mind and memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following, That is to say, First, I give and bequeath to my beloved Wife Jemima Hodges all my estate real and personal during her natural life or widowhood not otherwise herein mentioned. Secondly I give and bequeath to my four sons (viz) Ransom, S. Hodges, Creed C. Hodges, Asa W. Hodges, and
Alfred J. Hodges my land One hundred and 79 1/2 acres to be equally divided
among them at The death or marriage of my beloved wife Jemima Hodges, to
them and their heirs forever, and Thirdly at the death or marriage of my
wife I give and bequeath my negra Girl Ritter with her increase and all my
personal property to be equally divided between my lawful heirs Ransom S.
Hodges, Creed C. Hodges, Polly B. Hodges, Betsy C. Hodges, Sarah N. Hodges,
Asa W. Hodges, Malinda L. Hodges, Alfred J. Hodges, and Jemima H.
Fourthly I appoint Merideth Hodges my sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament. further it is my wish for all my just debts to be paid out of my Estate, my children schooled and when any one of my children comes of lawful age to act for themselves, I wish my Executor to give them such a portion of my chattle property as he may deem necessary having due regard to an equal division and the maintainance of my beloved wife Jemima Hodges. I hereby revoke all former wills by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twenty Third day of October in the year of Our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and twenty three.

Signed sealed published and delivered by the above named Asa Hodges to be his last Will and Testament in the presents of us who have hereunto subscribed our names as Witnesses in the presents of the Testator.

The last Will and Testament of Asa Hodges dec'd was exhibited in open court for probate and thereupon duly proved by the oaths of Isham Hodges Jr. and Isham Hodges Sr. two of the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded.
