Annual Report of the Commissioners of the poor of Sumner County with the expenses that have accrued from 1st January 1878 up to 1st January 1879 which amolunts to $600.00. The average No. of Paupers 22. Average price $30. The names of white paupers ages and conditions:
Susy Ellis age 79 very feeble
Mary Sutton age 73 in good health
Darcus Barnett 61 in bad health
Rosy Vinyard 31 crippled and has two children
Harvey Malone age 76 Blind
John Malone age 6 very sprightly
Alonzo Malone age 10 very sprightly
Lizzie Malone age 4 very sprightly
Almedia Malone age 32 does cooking and washing for white paupers
Ben Thomas age 67 cuts wood and in good health
Hardy Lawrence age 66 badly crippled and in poor health
John McAdams age 61 good health cuts wood

Colored inmates
Thomas Averett age 76 not able to do but little
Polly Tab age 76 does cooking and washing
Matilda Gray age 28 Blind and badly burned
Lucy May age 9 years very sprightly ought to be bound out
Becky Cage age 28 Idiot and deformed

Property on hand 1st of January 1879, 120 Barrels of corn, 3000 binds oats, 2880 lbs Bacon, 300 lbs lard 1 cooking stove and utensils sufficient amount of beds and bed clothing, one wagon & harness, tools sufficient to carry on the farm 13 head of cattle 18 hogs 34 Sheep 1 mare some 20 acres sown in wheat farm in very good condition. We have employed James Shaw for this year for $200 and his son James Shaw for 7 months for $85.00 commencing from 1st of January 1879. Said James Shaw is to furnish one horse to be fed and shod by the county he is to find himself and son. They are to be paid quarterly all of which are respectfully submitted for your investigation.
