Tollie Arterburn

Tollie W. Arterburn (7 Jan 1879 - 14 Aug 1917) is pictured as a member of this string band circa 1900.  This group of musicians were popular in the White House area.  Tollie was the son of Thomas J. Arterburn.  He married Sarah E. Hester (11 Mar 1884 - 6 Oct 1966) on 29 December 1899 in Sumner County, TN.  Tollie and Sarah are buried in the Walnut Grove Cemetery on Hwy. 76.   Members of the band include (1st row left to right)  Ewing Pitt, Mayme Link, Tom Pitt, Cummings Jackson, Milton Taylor George*.  2nd row (left to right):  Nannie Jackson, Blonnie Pitt, Tolbert Aterburn, Unknown, John Jackson, Auther Arterburn, Albey Jackson.  Top:  Charlie Jackson.  Band members identified from White House History and Reflections by Evelyn P. *Milton Taylor George was identified by his granddaughter, Joyce George Keith.  Taylor George was born in 1881 and died in 1966.  He married Hattie B. Tomlinson on August 27, 1910 in Sumner County, Tn. Hattie was born in 1886 and died in 1966.  Both are buried in the Halltown Cemetery.
