Halverson House

Hans Halverson was born in Oslo, Norway on 14 July 1871.  He moved with his family to South Dakota when he was about five years old.  His family owned the Langford Hardware Company in Langford, Marshall County, SD.  Hans married Emma Kettleson/Kittlesen of Dodge County, Minnesota on 2 January 1907.  They moved east to Portland, Tn. in 1911.  The family is believed to have been among those who came to the area with the Seventh Day Adventist movement in the early part of the last century.  Hans and Emma had 3 children, Esther born 30 December 1909 in SD, Raymond, born 19 June 1912 in Tn., and Charles, born 6 April 1914 in Portland Tn.  It is believed that they also had an adopted daughter named Blanche.  Emma Kettleson Halverson was b on 8 November 1973,  died 12 May 1927.  She was the dau of Kitrel and Anna Kettleson/Kittlesen who emigrated from Norway. Hans Halverson died on 30 June 1960.  Both are buried in the Old Brush Cemetery near the Fountain Head Community.  Their surname is spelled, "Halvorsen" on their tombstone.
