Westmoreland World, 21 October 1982

Mrs. Billie Gene Swain Brown, age 64 and a resident of Route 1, Westmoreland, died Monday, October 11 at the Highland Hospital in Portland. She is survived by her husband, J. T. "Crash" Brown; two daughters, Joan Elizabeth Boner and Billie Jean Brown Carter, both of Westmoreland; one son, Phil Ray Brown of Morgantown, Kentucky. A sister, Mrs. Birdie Vest of Turttletown and a brother, Ray Swain of Postelle, also survive. Other survivors include three grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 14, at 1 pm at the Pleasant Grove Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 28 October 1982

Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie) Hammock, age 80, a resident of Route 4, Westmoreland, died Thursday, October 21, at the home of her step-daughter in Westmoreland. She was a member of Walker's Chapel Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter, Mary Ethel Troutt, Westmoreland; two step-daughters, Ruth Tuttle, Westmoreland and Frances Hammock, Carthage; one son, Robert Hammock, Gallatin; one step-son, Paul Hammock, Westmoreland. Other survivors include two sisters, Redie Goodrum, Adolphus and Cora Gaw, Scottsville and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were Saturday, October 23, at 2 pm at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland. Burial  followed at Eulia Cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 18 November 1982

Frank P. Lyons, age 81, a resident of Route 2, Westmoreland, died Sunday, November 7, at the Brandywood Nursing Home. Survivors include one son, Mortimer Lyons, Chicago; one step-son Argel Phillips, Westmoreland and three step-daughters Virginia Troutt, Westmoreland, Reva Edding, Nashville and Thelma Perry, Louisville. One sister, Adeline Lamasky, Phoenix, also survives. Other survivors include 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland. Burial followed in New Hope cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 18 November 1982

Mr. Tom Rains, age 56, of Westmoreland, died Friday, November 12 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. Survivors include one son, John T. Rains, Jr., Westmoreland; three step-sons, William Lee Cross and Russell Perry both of Westmoreland and Anthony Wayne Cross of Indianapolis, Ind.; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ruth Duffer of Westmoreland; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jo Wells of Hopkinsville, KY.; and Mrs. Patsy Scianna of Madison. Seven grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Sunday, November 14 at 2 p.m. at the Alexander Funeral Home with burial in the Pike Cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 18 November 1982

George H. (Hooley) Akin, age 59, died Tuesday, November 9 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Louise Akin, Westmoreland; seven brothers, Earnest Akin, Luther Akin, Tom Akin, S. G. Akin, and Earl Akin all of Westmoreland, Ora Akin, and Jesse Akin both of Indianapolis, IN.; five sisters, Mrs. Erma Meadows, Mrs. Frances Gregory and Mrs. Katherine Johns all of Westmoreland, Mrs. Lorene Berdine, and Mrs. Betty Leath both of Indianapolis, IN. Funeral services were held Thursday, November 11 at Sioam Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Sioam Cemetery under the direction of the Alexander Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gladis McKinney, age 77, a resident of Route 2, Westmoreland, died Thursday, November 11 at the Macon General Hospital. Survivors include one daughter Mrs. Louise Harrison of Sioam and three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Cumalottie of Louisville, Ky., Mrs. Virginia Johnson of California and Mrs. Girty Engle of Scottsburg, Indiana. Also seven grandchildren survive. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 13 at 11 a.m. at the Eulia General Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 16 December 1982

Nella Cook, former resident of Westmoreland, died Monday, December 6 at Nashville Memorial Hospital. She is survived by two sons, Jessie D. Cook, Westmoreland and Obie J. Cook, Nashville; three daughters, Mrs. Cordell Spears, Hendersonville; Mrs. Stanley Hutchenson, Nashville and Mildred Williams of Pulaski. Funeral services were held at Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin and burial was in the Eulia Cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 16 December 1982

Garland D. Hall, age 70, a former resident of Route 2, Westmoreland, died Monday, December 13 at the Scottsville Rest Home, Scottsville, Ky. Survivors include one son, James Hall, Westmoreland; one brother, Luther Hall, Westmoreland; three sisters, Mrs. Zelma Miller, Jeffersonville, Ind.; Mrs. Donnie Harrison and Mrs. Laruna Simons, both of Westmoreland and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 am Wednesday at the Eulia General Baptist Church  under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 16 December 1982

Paul Miller dies in accident - A Westmoreland resident was fatally injured in a traffic accident that occurred south of Westmoreland Saturday night at old 31-E and Highway 231 intersection. Police said Paul L. Miller, Route 4, was pronounced dead on arrival at Sumner County Hospital. Injured in the accident were Billy R. Satterfield, Hartsville, Michael L. Baskerville and Michael A. Loveall, Portland, according to officials. State Trooper Wayne Featherstone said the 1965 Ford apparently left the road and struck an abutment. An investigation of the accident is being conducting according to Featherstone who reported Tuesday that the driver of the vehicle had not yet been determined.

Paul Lewis Miller, age 38, died Sunday, December 12. He was a resident of Route 4, Westmoreland. Survivors include his wife Sherron Miller, Westmoreland, mother Willie D. Bullington, New Zion Community, father Vernie Miller, Spring City, Tn., one son, Paul; one step-son Kevin Satterfield, both of Westmoreland; one daughter Paula, Westmoreland; five brothers, Raymond, Thomas, Jerry and Ricky, all of Westmoreland and Joe of Nashville; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Johns, Westmoreland and Mrs. Brenda King of Lebanon. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial following in the Sioam cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 30 December 1982

Willie Hoy Taylor, Route 3, Westmoreland, died Sunday, December 19 at the Parkview Hospital in Nashville. He was 61. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Mae Taylor of Westmoreland; one son, Hoy Leon Taylor, Westmoreland; three sisters, Mrs. Lola Dean Law and Mrs. Lavern Calvert, both of Westmoreland and Mrs. Viola Douglas of Gallatin. Two grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held, Tuesday, December 21 at the Mt. Olive Methodist Church under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
