Westmoreland World, 1 April 1981 - Area Death

Mrs. Delma L. McCormack, 59, Route 3, Westmoreland, was dead on arrival at Sumner County Memorial Hospital Saturday, March 28. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 am, at Providence General Baptist Church with burial at the Forrest Chapel Cemetery. She is survived by her husband J. D. McCormack of Westmoreland; one brother, Willard Payne of Toledo, Ohio; and one sister, Mrs. Velma Carter of Toledo, Ohio.

Westmoreland World, 9 April 1981 - Area Death

Elkin Sadler - Route 3, Westmoreland, age 61, died Saturday, April 4 at the Brandy Wood Nursing Home. The funeral services were held at 2 pm at the New Hope Baptist Church with burial at the New Hope Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Ruby Biggers Sadler, 1 daughter, Judith Kemp of Mt. Juliet; 1 brother, Owen Sadler of Indianapolis, and one grandchild, Molly VonLund of Mt. Juliet.

Westmoreland World, 23 April 1981 - Area Death 

William Garlin Carter, age 59, and a resident of Route 2, Westmoreland, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin on Wednesday April 15. Funeral services for Mr. Carter were held Friday, April 17, 2 pm, at the Alexander Funeral Chapel in Westmoreland, with burial in the Caldwell Cemetery. Survivors include a son, William K. Carter, Westmoreland; one daughter, Phyllis A. Bradley, Adolphus, Ky.; one brother, Dennis Carter, Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 sisters, Bessie Creasy and Sophia Heath, both of Westmoreland; and one grandchild.

Westmoreland World, 30 April 1981 - Area Deaths

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 12, 2 pm for Mrs. Virgie Bentle who passed away on Friday, April 10 at the Macon County General Hospital in Lafayette, Tennessee. Services were held at the Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bentle, age 92, was a resident of Route 2, Westmoreland. Survivors include a son, Cleamon Bentle, Westmoreland; 3 daughters, Mrs. Willie Bullington and Mrs. Neva Meador both of Westmoreland, and Mrs. Tommy Brown, Portland; several half brothers and sister; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Elzie L. Johns, Route 2, Westmoreland, died Wednesday, April 8 at Rushville, Indiana. He was 67. He is survived by his wife, Frances Knight Johns, and one daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Meador, Scottsville. Other survivors include three brothers, Floyd Johns, Gallatin; Hayes Johns, Lafayette; and Garland Johns, Arlington, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Jewell Smith, Anderson, Ind., and Mrs. Lamon Robinson, Gallatin and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 11 am Saturday, April 11 at New Zion Baptist Church with burial at New Zion Cemetery.

Hazel Dean McDole Gothard, Bridgeport, Alabama, died Tuesday April 7 at Chattanooga. She was 51. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Gothard; one son, Barry Gothard of Bridgeport, Alabama; one daughter, Mrs. Dixie Kalshoven of Charleston, S. C. Other survivors include one brother, Bud McDole of Westmoreland, and Mrs. Lallie Cates of Indianapolis, Indiana. Funeral services were held at 3 pm at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with burial following at Siloam Cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 7 May 1981 - Area Deaths Reported

Terry Wayne Gregory, age 22, of Route 3, Westmoreland, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Hendersonville Community Hospital. He is survived by his father, Charlie F. Gregory and his mother, Nancy L. Troutt Gregory. Other survivors include 3 brothers, Faron Dale Troutt of Westmoreland, Charlie F. Gregory, Jr., of Ashville, N. C.; Graylon Gregory of Portland; 1 sister, Mrs. Charlotte Huntsman of Westmoreland. Funeral services were held Monday, May 4 at 2 pm at the Alexander Funeral Home, Westmoreland, with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Ernest Key, a resident of Route 3, Westmoreland, was dead on arrival at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin. He is survived by one son, James M. Key, Dinver County, one step-son, S.D. Lyles, Gallatin, one step daughter, Mrs. Patsy Anderson, Gallatin; two brothers, Vernie Key, Westmoreland and Orel Key, Bethpage; two sisters, Zelma Andrews and Etheleen Coker, both of Westmoreland and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 29, at 2 pm at Alexander Funeral Home Westmoreland with burial in the Roberts Tabernacle Cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 14 May 1981 - Area Deaths

Hoyt W. Troutt, Route 4, Westmoreland, died Saturday, May 9 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He was 76. He is survived by three sons, Hollis Dean Troutt of Columbia, S. C., Paul A. Troutt and William Young Troutt, both of Westmoreland, and one daughter, Mrs. Ruby D. Shoulders of Indianapolis, Ind. Other survivors include a half brother, Eugene Troutt of Westmoreland; one half sister Maxine Gregory of Westmoreland, 13 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland on Monday, May 11, at 1 pm, with burial in the New Hope Cemetery.

Nannie B. Carr, Westmoreland, died Wednesday, May 6 at the Macon County General Hospital. She was 87. She is survived by one foster son, Aubrey Sloan of Westmoreland and one daughter, Elizabeth Carr of Westmoreland. Funeral services were held at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Westmoreland on Friday, May 8 at 1 pm with burial in the Green Grove Cemetery.

Cleo Farris Westmoreland, died Wednesday, May 6 at the Janwynella Nursing Home. She was 82. Survivors include four sons, Ernest Farris and Cecil Farris, both of Westmoreland; Norman Farris Riverside, Cal., and Homer Ray Farris of Salem, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Ruby Langford of Cookeville, Mrs. Villa Sanders and Mrs. Burna Loue Moss, both of Cocoma, Ind. Other survivors include three brothers, Uyles Bilyeu of Rickman, Tn., Sherman Bilyeu and Herman Bilyeu, both of Anderson, Ind.; and one sister, Mrs. Roxie Dittlinger of Anderson, Ind.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Raymond D. Summers, Westmoreland, age 52, died Tuesday, May 5 at Vanderbilt Hospital. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Bonnie Jean Summers, and one son Larry, both of Westmoreland; two stepsons Michael Graves and Mark Graves, both of Westmoreland; seven brothers, Jim and Fred Summers, both of Westmoreland; Herb, Everett, Donald, William and Ray, all of Gallatin; two sisters, Mrs. Allie Mae Graves, Westmoreland and Mrs. Marie Mills, Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 7 at 2 pm at the New Hope Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

James L. Gross, 62, Route 2, Westmoreland, died Tuesday, May 19, at Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nina Gross, Westmoreland; four sons, Ronald, Wayne, Ricky and Larry Gross, all of Westmoreland; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Sue Ferguson, Red Boiling Springs; and Mrs. Linda Herald, Westmoreland; three brothers, Hosea and William Gross of Gallatin; and Eugene Gross of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Mrs. Gracie Smith of Lafayette; and Mrs. Mary Williams, Franklin, Ky.; also 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive. Funeral services were held at 2 pm Thursday, May 21, at the Alexander Funeral Home with burial in the New Hope Cemetery.

Westmoreland World, 28 May 1981

Timothy Lee Tuttle age 3 months, Westmoreland, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Allen County Memorial Hospital on Thursday, May 14.  He is survived by his father, Tony Lynn Tuttle, and his mother, Mary Angela Holmes Tuttle. Other survivors include his paternal grandfather, Bobby Tuttle of Westmoreland; paternal grandmother, Sadie Morgan Tuttle of Adolphus; maternal grandfather, Steve Holmes, of Scottsville; and great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Brown of Adolphus. Funeral services were held Friday, May 15 at 11 am at the Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Westmoreland with burial in the Tuttle Cemetery.
