Tribute of Respect to brother
Maynard Durell Briley

At a stated meeting of Cherry Mound Lodge # 227 .F. & A.M. held at their hall in Sumner County Tennessee on Dec 15, 2003 the following resolutions were adopted.

Where as it has pleased our Supreme Grand Master in his mysterious providence ever wise and good to remove by death from our fraternal tie our brother Maynard Briley who passed away over the river to rest forever under the shade of the tree of life, at his residence in Sumner County, TN in the eighty eighth year of his age, on Dec. 12, 2003. While we endeavor to bow with submission to this afflicting decree of our Supreme Grand Master we sincerely regret our brotherly loss.

Brother Briley was born on Feb 5, 1915.  He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice Mason on August 22, 1947. He passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on Sep. 20, 1947.  He was raised to the Sublime degree of a Master Mason on Oct. 18, 1947.  He served as the Worshipful Master of Cherry Mound in 1950 and 1951.  He received his 50-year pin in 1997, and he passed to the Celestial Lodge above on Dec. 12, 2003, where the Grand Master of the universe resides in that home undimmed by clouds and unshaken by storms.  Where no yearnings can ever enter into our souls and we will forever drink from that pure fountain that hath its spring in the heart of God

Resolved that in the death of Brother Briley his children have lost a kind father, Sister Edna has lost a good husband, Halltown Baptist Church has lost a good member, Our community has lost a good citizen, and our Lodge has lost a true and tried brother, one who stood by it in times of trial and watched it pass through its turbulent scenes and trials for over half a century, but we trust that our loss is his eternal gain.

Resolved that we wear the usual badge of mourning for thirty days and a copy of these resolutions be furnished his beloved children and widow, and our secretary be instructed to set apart a memorial page in our minute book to the memory of our deceased brother and spread these words there on.

2003 Worshipful Master: Jerry Somerville
2003 Secretary: Robert Briley
