I hope that everyone enjoys reading this diary as much as I did. My mother (Cora McMurtry Durrett) was a friend to Mrs. Hester. Mary Lou Johnson was born Nov. 18, 1872 and died June 12, 1953. She was buried by her first husband Lee Link in the Jake Link Cemetery as Mary Link, 1 & 1/10 miles South of Clearview Church of Christ on Jake Link Road. *( Note by transcriber mj ) My Parents L. D. and Cora Durrett lived very close to the "Link Cemetery" and "Miss Mary" as she was known, lived in the Clearview Community which is close to Portland, Tenn. Although I did not know her myself, I have heard my mother talk of her often. I did know her son Granville Link and his wife Irene, also her son Irby Hester and his daughter, Dorris Hester Vanatta who gave us permission to transcribe this Diary.
