Hunter, J. W. To John C. Lovell - Deed of Trust

I John W. Hunter of the county of Sumner & the State of Tennessee for the consideration of five dollars to me paid & the further consideration herein after to be mentioned this day bargain & sold and do hereby transfer & convey to John C. Lovell of the county and state of aforesaid in civil District No. 19 and bounded as follows to wit; Beginning on a Black Jack corner to Bartholomew Osborne, thence West with his line 40 poles to a Post Oak, thence South 20 poles to a Red Oak, thence West 16 poles to three Black Jacks, thence South 14 poles to a post oak, thence West 30 poles to a Stake in Berry's line, thence North 149 poles to a Sassafras in Duncan's line, thence East 76 poles to a small Red Oak, thence South 60 poles to a Post Oak, thence East 167 poles to a stake Thomas Osborne's corner, thence South 160 poles to another one of Osborne's corners, thence West 74 poles to two Oaks Black Jack pointers Osborne's corner, thence North 99 poles to a Black Jack Osborne's corner, thence 100 poles to the beginning. Interlined before assigned containing one hundred & sixty five Ares. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land to the said John C. Lovell his heirs and assignees forever. I covenant with the said John C. Lovell. I am lawfully seized of said land that it is unencumbered & that I have a good right to convey the same. I do further covenant to warrant and defend the title to the said land to the said John C. Lovell his heirs and assigns against the claims of all persons whatever.

But this conveyance is made for the following trust and purpose & none other that is to say whereas I am indebted to John C. Lovell by note the sum of twenty six dollars and 44 cents due the 25th of December 1860 to Leon Miller by judgment twenty eight dollars & 16 cents also to L. Miller as stay security for Mrs. Docia Blackburn & James Blackburn in two judgments in the sum of about forty dollars to J. B. Mason by note and account in the sum of about thirty dollars & S. & Y. Heermans by note & account about the sum of twenty five dollars to Lucas & Jernigan by note in the sum of twenty two dollars & 50 cents due the 25th of December 1860 to Wm. C. Barr by account twelve dollars & Alfred Groves by account in the sum of four dollars. And whereas I am desirous to secure and make certain the payment of said debts costs & all interest thereon. Now if I should on or before the first day of September 1861 pay or cause to be paid all of said debts costs & interest thereon then this conveyance to be void and of no effect. But should I fail or refuse to pay off and satisfy said debts costs and interest by the time above specified then & in that event the said John C. Lovell as Trustee after giving forty days written notice at five public places in District No. 19 of the time and place of sale hereby authorized and directed to expose said land to public sale and sell the same to the highest bidder for cash the right of redemption is waved by the bargainor and apply the proceeds first to the payment of the necessary expenses in and about the execution of this trust, Secondly to the payment of the above enumerated debts and interest if said fund should be sufficient for that purpose if not he will pay the same per racio upon said debts intact, thirdly should there be a balance to pay the same over to me. Littleton, J. To L. H. Littleton - Deed of Trust

I Jacob Littleton of the county of Sumner State of Tennessee have this day sold and do hereby convey unto Levi H. Littleton four horses & wagon, gear & for the sum of five dollars to me in hand paid. Witness my hand & seal this the 13th of Septr. 1860. The condition of the above obligation is such that the said Levi H. Littleton is my security to J. M. Shaver administrator of Jno. Shaver in the sum of one hundred and seventy five dollars & by note the 2nd of November next. He is also my security to Robt. Scott in the sum forty one dollars by note due in August last. Now if I should by the 1st of September 1861 pay off the above described debts this conveyance to be void. But should I fail to pay the same at said date then the said Levi H. Littleton is authorized & empowered by these presents after advertising in the town of Hartsville and two other public places in the county of Sumner to sell said wagon and horses to the highest bidder for cash and apply to the proceeds first to the payment

Huffman, W. C. To Wm. F. Andrews - Bill of Sale

Know all men by these presents that I W. C. Huffman for and in consideration of the sum of ($175.00) one hundred and seventy five dollars to me in hand paid by Wm. F. Andrews the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have bargained and sold and do hereby convey and sell to the said Wm. F. Andrews and his assigns one roan horse fifteen hands and a half high and five years old last spring also twenty head of Berkshire hogs. To have and to hold the same with said party his heirs and assigns forever. And I do for myself my heirs executors and administrators covenant and agree to and with the said Wm. F. Morton, Wm. C. To His Heirs - Deed of Gift

For the love and affection I entertain for my children whose names are as follows: Martha E. Adcock, Alfred W. Morton, Missouri E. Morton, Vienna E. Pirtle, Serutha L. Morton, Fidella C. Morton, Octavia L. Dorris, Laura L. Adams, James M. Morton, Lenara Ann Morton. I do hereby give & transfer & convey to them my tract of land whereon I now reside containing one hundred & thirty six acres to be equally divided amongst them lying and being in Sumner County and State of Tennessee District number sixteen and bounded as follows to wit; Beginning at a large Hickory corner in Washington Hodges's line, thence with Benjamin Berryman's line North, thence North with Allen Barber's line to a White Oak corner the North side of the old narvil road in John J. Brackin's line, thence East to a Black Gum, thence South to a White Oak, thence East to Wm. Sherron's corner on a stake, thence South with Sherron's line to a South corner being a Red Oak, thence West to the beginning corner being a lase Hickory. To have and to hold the same to the said heirs above mentioned their heirs & assigns forever. I covenant and agree for myself and heirs and assigns to warrant and defend the title to the said tract of land to the said heirs above mentioned their heirs above mentioned their heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever. Gaines, G. B. To Wm. A. Lovell - Bill of Sale

I G. B. Gaines have this day bargained and sold to William A. Lovell for the consideration of two hundred & fifty dollars to me paid my present crops of tobacco supposed to be about five thousand pounds a part of which has been cut & hung. The tobacco remaining in the field I bind myself to cut and hang the balance of said tobacco and strip and put the whole of it in good prizing order all to be done as soon as the season and time will admit. To have and to hold said tobacco to the said William Lovell his heirs and assigns and I will warrant and forever defend the title of said tobacco against the claims of all persons whatever. State of Tennessee Sumner County - Know all men by these presents that I A. J. Crenshaw of the county and State aforesaid have this day bargained and sold and do hereby convey to H. C. Ellis of Sumner County and State aforesaid my present & entire crop of tobacco which is now growing in all about twenty thousand plants more or less for the consideration of one hundred and fifty dollars to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged. Know all men by these presents that for and in consideration of the sum of six hundred dollars to me in hand paid, I have this day bargained sold and delivered unto Sarah B. West of the county of Sumner and State of Tennessee a certain negro woman named Leatha aged about thirty six years. I warrant said negro woman sound sensible and healthy and a slave for life and I further bind myself my heirs and assigns to defend the title to said negro woman Leathy to the said Sarah B. Wright, J. R. To Martha Roany - Deed of Gift

Whereas birth has been given to an illegitimate by Margaret Roaney called Martha Roany, now about the age of twelve & fifteen years and whereas I afterwards to wit in the year 1858 intermarried with said Margarett Roany and whereas there was willed to the said Margarett Roany by her Father James Roany certain property specified in said will to which by virtue of said will there have certain marital rights attached upon said property in my favor and whereas the said Margarett Roany has departed this life leaving as her sole issue the said Martha Roany aforesaid. Now in consideration of the premises and for the love and affection which I bare and entertain towards the said Martha Roany and the further consideration of $36.50 cents to me in hand paid, I give grant convey and assign unto the said Martha Roany all rights interest and claim which may have accrued to me in consequence of my marriage with the said Margarett Roany in and to the property money or other effects which were willed to the said Margarett Roany by her Father, the said James Roany, now in the hands of Benj. Roany Trustee and I will warrant and defend the title to the same against all claims to be set up by through or under me but no further or otherwise. This 5th day of December 1859. John R. Payne, Jr. of the County of Davidson & State before mentioned two negro slaves named Caly aged about nine years & Rachael aged about seven years, for and in consideration of one thousand dollars to me in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged. Bartholomew To Puckett - Mortgage

This Indure made the third day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty between John F. Puckett grocer of the village of Saundersville in the County of Sumner & State of Tennessee on the one part & Thomas Bartholomew of the above name county & State of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John F. Puckett in consideration of the sum of one thousand dollars and fifty $ lawful money of the United States to him duly paid has sold and by these presents does grant and convey to said Bartholomew of the second part all that certain house and lot in the village of Saundersville Sumner County Tennessee & all the stock now on hand and appurtenances thereof said lot is bounded as follows to wit; Beginning at a point in the Nashville & Gallatin Turnpike road, thence N 40 W with Wm. Winhams East boundary 76 feet to a stake, thence N 20 E 32 feet, thence 72 feet to the middle of said Turnpike, thence S 51 W 30 feet to the beginning. For and in consideration of which and to secure the payment of the above specified sum of one thousand and fifty dollars said Puckett retain a lien on said house & lot and all the stack now on hand or may be laid in hereafter and also on a certain negro woman named Jane the property of said Bartholomew. In condition of which if said Bartholomew shall not pay or cause to be paid by the 25th day of December AD 1860 said obligation to be null and void otherwise to remain in full force, after the faithful performance of said obligation said Puckett obligates himself to give said Bartholomew a general warrantee Deed. Stewart, E. G. To Peyton Stewart - Bill of Sale

Know all persons by these presents that I E. G. Stewart have this day bargained and sold to Peyton Stewart my present crop of tobacco for the consideration of two hundred and thirty dollars that is the said Peyton Stewart is bound to S. T. Harris for one hundred and seventy dollars and to Jo. Working for sixty dollars for the said E. G. Stewart. Now if the said E. G. Stewart should pay or cause to be paid the above debts then this bill of sale to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. This the 24 of Septr. 1860. E. G. (his x mark) Stewart

Harrison, N. B. To A. H. Brewer - Deed of Mortgage

Whereas I am indebted to Arthur H. Brewer the sum of $241.60 the same being the balance of the purchase money arising upon the sale of a tract of land eighty five acres lying in civil District No. 15, Sumner County for a particular description of the boundaries reference is made to a deed from myself to R. E. Johnson Trustee for Susan Ferris. And whereas I have exchanged said land for a tract of forty two acres lying in civil District No. 2 in Sumner adjoining the lands of Roland Husley, D. W. Dickerson, L. P. Proctor & myself & wishing to make said Brewer safe in the payment of said $241.60. I hereby give to said Brewer a lien upon said forty two acres of land above described until said debt is paid. Septr. 15th 1860. N. B. Harrison

Wilhite, W. J. To R. M. Potts - Bill of Sale

I have this day bargained and sold and hereby covey to Robt. M. Potts his heirs and assigns for consideration of twenty one dollars and fifty cents to me in hand paid my growing crop of the tobacco including all the tobacco including all the tobacco that I have raised this year upon the lands of W. D. Austin supposed to be two acres. I also bind and obligate myself to the said R. M.. Potts for the above mentioned consideration to cut house cure and strip the same and to deliver the said crops at any place that he may designate after the same is ready for sale.
