This Indenture made this 29th Jany A.D. 1838 Between George Northam & Wm. P. Smith, both of the County of Richmond & State of North Carolina ------Witnesseth: That the sd Northam for & in consideration of the sum of One hundred dollars to the said Northam in hand paid by the said Smith, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, hath bargained sold, aliened, enfeoffed?, convey; confirm & deliver unto the said Wm. P. Smith, his heirs & assigns forever the following piece or parcel of Land lying & being in said County--Beginning at Elias Gardeners lower corner on Steely Branch & running with sd Gardners lower line to a Black Jack another corner of said Gardners land, then with a line of William Love to a stooping black Oak, said Northams corner, Then with Northams line to the Steely branch, then up the various courses of said branch to the beginning Containing twenty four acres more or less. To have & to hold the aforesaid lands & premises, with the appurtenances to the said Smith his heirs & assigns forever and the said Northam will warrant & forever defend the same & every part thereof to the said Smith his heirs & assigns forever -- In witness whereof the said Northam doth hereunto set his hand & affix his seal Day & Year first above written Signed sealed & delivered in presence of >>>> The words "another corner of said Gardners lands" between the 12th & 13th lines enterlened before signing
