Edward Garrett To John Garrett, 1799

This indenture made this second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & ninety and nine, between Edward Garrett of the State of Tennessee in Sumner County of the one part, and John Garrett of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Edward Garrett for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars, to me in hand paid, the receipt whereof I do hereby acknowledge, have granted, bargained, and sold, and do by these presents fully and clearly grant, bargain sell, and forever make over, make over to the said John Garrett his heirs and assigns a certain tract of land situate on the waters of Drakes Creek, in the county and state aforesaid. Beginning at a Beach, sugar tree & Hickory trees being corner to Thomas Conner's land & running with his line West 126 & 1/2 poles to a Poplar & two Beaches, his corner, thence North 126 & 1/2 poles to an Ash & Sugar tree, thence East 126 & 1/2 poles to a Beach and Dogwood trees, corner to Daniel Oglesby's land, thence South one hundred and twenty six & one half poles to the beginning and containing one hundred acres, with all and singular, the ways, woods, waters & appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining with the reversion & reversions, remainder & remainders, rents & issues thereof, & all the state, right & title claim or demand of him the said Edward Garrett. To have & to hold the said one hundred acres of land unto the said John Garrett, his heirs & assigns forever, and I the said Edward Garrett, against myself and against every other person or persons excepting my wife's third during her widowhood shall & will warrant and forever defend unto the said John Garrett his heirs & assigns forever, so that the said land be for the whole of it, after my wife widowhood for the use benefit & behoof of him the said John Garrett his heirs & assigns forever.
