To the Honorable W. K. Turner, Judge of the Circuit Court for Sumner County
Martin Skerley asks your Honor to be permitted to file and have entered of record the following declaration as preliminary to his becoming a citizen of the United States of North America.
Declaration
I Martin Skerley, non a subject of Victoria, the first Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland, do hereby declare that it is my bona fide intention to become a citizen of the United States, and to renounce for ever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty whateer, and particularly to Victoria, the first Queen of England, Ireland and Scotland of whom I am now a subject.
This 6th day of March 1860.
