At a Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions (illegible) met at the house of Ezekiel Douglass on the first Monday in (illegible) October 1796.

On motion of Mr. Alexander Ewing, who after being duly sworn states that having sent his return of Taxable property to April Term last part which return was handed by Maj. Bradford to David Shelby & by him to Col. Douglass who appears to have failed to enter the same on his return of Taxable property, It is therefore ordered that his return be reviewed which in as follows to wit: 640 Acres of land on Cedar Lick, 640 Acres on Smiths Fork & 274 Acres on Smiths Fork and that the said Ewing be exonerated from all fines & which has incurred by reason of the same not being entered or returned within the time limit by law.

On motion of Archibald Fitts - Ordered that he be released & exonerated from the public & County Tax on 1280 Acres of land for the present year, he the said Fitts having through mistake been charged for that quantity of land more than he was liable to pay for.

Deed of Conveyance from Thomas Mastin to James Fugate for two hundred & twenty five acres of land lying in Russell County & Commonwealth of Virginia was duly acknowledged by the said Thomas Mastin.

The last Will & Testament of Edward Howell, dec'd is exhibited to Court and duly proved by the oath of Mathew Scoby who also makes oath that the said decedent wrote his name to the first seal of said will and the same not being sufficient by legible as he thought afterwards directed him the said deponent to write his name again which he did & wrote another seal, all the same time. Frances Howell (page torn) is nominated in the said last Will & Testament appeared & (rest of page gone)
