Sumner County           }    Circuit Court February Term 1866

This day came into open court John Riley, and declared an oath that he will support the Constitution of the United States, and that he doth absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity, to every foreign Prince, Potentate or Soveranty (sovereignty) whatever, and particularly the Queen of Great Brittain and Ireland, of whom he was a subject, and it appearing that said that said John Riley had declared his intention, more than three years ago, to become a citizen of the United States, and that he has been for more than five years a resident of the United States, and for more than one year a citizen of Tennessee, and during that time the said John Riley has behaved himself as a man of good moral character, attached to the principals of the Constitution of the United States, and well disposed to the good order and hopeness? of the same, it is therefore ordered by the court, that John Riley be admitted to become a Citizen of the United States, & he is declared to be entitled to all the benefits and privileges of a Citizen of the United States.  This 26th day of Feb 1866.
