May Coppin with David Owen Doherty and Elizabeth (Coppin) Doherty and Ben the Horse- May Coppin was born in 1876 and Elizabeth (Coppin) Doherty was born in 1872, they were the daughters of David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire. David Owen Doherty was the son of Elizabeth Coppin Doherty and Joseph Doherty. The horse I have been told was called Ben. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen (d/o David Owen Doherty)
Ned Walsh and David Owen Doherty-I don't know anything about Ned Walsh. David Owen Doherty was the son of Joseph Doherty and Elizabeth Coppin he was born on March 28, 1907 and died on Sep. 3, 1962. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
Bridget Coolen and James Doherty- Bridget Coolen was the daughter of James Coolen and Rebecca Duggan, she was born April 14 1855, and died at the age of 83 on Aug 30 1938. She married James Doherty son of Peter Doherty and Mary Ann Fawson on Nov 12 1888 in Prospect. James was born on Nov 28 1859 and passed away Jul 23 1925. James Doherty had the nickname of, "DOC," Bridget and Doc had no children. - contributed by Ellen Ryan (great-niece of Bridget Coolen).
Mary Ann Fawson- Mary Ann Fawson was the daughter of William Fawson and Mary McCarthy of Halifax, Nova Scotia she was born abt. 1822. Sometime around 1842 she met and married Peter Doherty son of James Doherty and Ann Green of Chester who was living with family in Prospect. They married and had sixteen children, from 1846-1872. Mary Ann died on July 20 1898 ten years after the death of her husband, in Prospect. She is buried with him in the old 1865 cemetery in the village.- contributed by great granddaughter Kathleen (Doherty) Coolen of Prospect.
Joseph Doherty- Born on November 3, 1861 he was the son of Peter Doherty and Mary Anne Fawson. He married Elizabeth Coppin d/o David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire on November 26, 1900 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Prospect. They had six children three that lived to adulthood; Bernard, David Owen and Joseph Peter. - contributed by grandaughter Louise Christian

Kathleen Johnson- Kathleen Johnson was the daughter of Ruth Margaret Coppin and John Johnston. She was born in 1899 and she died 1916. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
Margaret Ross with Shep the Dog - Margaret Ross with Shep the Dog- Margaret Ross was the only daughter of May Lauretta Coppin and James Alexander Ross. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
David Coppin- David Coppin was born in October 4,1842 the son of James Coppin (1796-1878) and Catherine McPhee (1798-1881) of Halifax, he was a solider in the Fenian Raids of 1866. He married Elizabeth McGuire of Portuguese Cove on Nov. 20, 1864 at St. George's Anglican Church. David and Elizabeth had 13 children, and lived in Prospect and Halifax on and off for many years. Their children married Hardiman's, Power's, Johnson's, Ross's, and Doherty's David died March 19, 1918 at his son-in-law James A. David Coppin on a Bicycle and Elizabeth (McGuire) Coppin - Elizabeth McGuire was born December 15 1843, in Portuguese Cove to Daniel McGuire and Ann Perrin. Along with three of her sisters (Margaret R. Christian, Mary Eleanor Duggan, Susan Benning Coolen) she moved to Prospect after marrying David Coppin of Halifax. Elizabeth died at the age of 70 on February 5 1914 in Prospect.- contributed by James Ross (great-grandson)
Elizabeth (McGuire) Coppin and Elizabeth Hardiman- Elizabeth Welly was the daughter of Catherine Blanche Coppin and John O. Hardiman. She was the grand-daughter of Elizabeth McGuire and David Coppin. She married Richard Welly, and they had a daughter Elizabeth who is still alive- contributed by James Ross
Harold Ross (ca. 1907) - Harold Ross was the son of James A. Ross and May Lauretta Coppin. Born Oct. 27 1905 in Halifax. Harold married Evangeline Brown in 1947 and they had four children. Harold passed away in 1992. contributed by James Ross (son)
Harold Ross- same as above
James A. Ross with May Lauretta Coppin and so Harold- James A. Ross was the son of James and Hannah Ross of Halifax, and was a photographer. He owned a studio on Barrington street. He married May Lauretta Coppin (1875-1948) daughter of David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire of Prospect on April 19 1904 at the home of May's brother. James A. Ross passed away in 1950. They had two children Harold and Margaret- contributed by James Ross (grandson)
Anne Louise Coppin- Louise Coppin was born April 19 1879 and was the daughter of David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire. She lived a long life and passed away June 13 1952. Louise never married and had no children. - contributed by James Ross
Margaret and Harold Ross - The children of James A. Ross and May Lauretta Coppin of Halifax, probably down visiting their grandparents and other family members in Prospect. Harold was born on October 27, 1905, and passed away in 1992. Margaret Louise was born November 7 1909, and passed away March 3 1986. - James Ross (son, and nephew)
May Lauretta Coppin and the Barry Family- In this picture are two grown women and three children. The two women are May Lauretta Coppin (1879-1948), daughter of David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire (left) and the other is Olive Ross or commonly called Dot Christian (1873-?) daughter of Nicholas P. Christian and Margaret Ross McGuire. May and Dot were first cousins. The children are those of Dot Christian and her husband Edward Barry. They had four children and we know that the boy is their son William, but the two girls are questionable at this time as one could be their daughter Mary Lillian (b. 1895) or their daughter Nicola, or thier daughter Marjorie?- contributed by James Ross
May Lauretta Coppin- May Lauretta Coppin was born May 5 1879 in Prospect, and was the daughter of David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire. She married James A Ross, of Halifax and they had two children. May died October 26 1948 in Halifax. - contributed by James Ross (grandson)
The Coppin Sisters, and Their Daughters- Shown in this picture are from left to right: Louise Coppin; Elizabeth Whelly; Ruth Power; Susan (Coppin) Power; May (Coppin) Ross; Elizabeth (Coppin) Doherty; and in the car May Ross. This picture was taken sometime in the 1930's and its the only picture we have of the COPPIN sister together before they all passed away. Elizabeth Hardiman and Bernard Doherty- Elizabeth and Bernard were first cousins. Elizabeth was the d/o John (Jono) Hardiman and Catherine Blanche Coppin. Elizabeth married Richard Welly. Bernard Doherty was the son of Joseph Doherty and Elizabeth Coppin, he was born Jun 28 1902, in Prospect. Bernard moved to Boston sometime in the 1930's.- contributed by Kathleen (Doherty) Coolen.

Carrie Beck dressed as a boy-This is Mary Caroline Beck daughter of Thomas Beck and Clemence Christian. She was born on April 6, 1906 and she died on Nov. 12, 1990. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
Thomas Beck- Tom was the son of Edward Beck and Caroline Coolen. He was born on July 18, 1876 and he died in 1948. He married Clemence Christian on Nov. 24, 1903 and they had six children. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
Scott Beck- Scott Beck was the son of Isiah Beck (of Lunenburg County) and Frances Knickle. He was Dec 18 1888. His father died sometime before 1895, when his mother Ellen married James H. Hardiman. contributed by Michael (half-great nephew)
Marian Beck, William Christian and Elizabeth Beck- Marian and Elizabeth Beck were the children of Thomas and Clemence Beck. Marian was born in Prospect on May 17 1908, and Elizabeth or Bess was born in 1911. They are standing with their grandfather William Christian son of John Christian and Elizabeth White, who was born Sep 19 1849. This picture looks like it was taken sometime in the 1920's as Bess looks like she is ten or eleven. Marian Beck married David Doherty, in 1931, and she died in 1994. He married Clemence Christian daughter of William Christian and Isabel Coolen and they had six children, of which one their daughter Elizabeth still lives. empty lot stands just off the main Prospect Road,
before you come to the
Petro Canada Station on your way into Halifax, on the right side of the
road. The Beck's would come up the bay during the

Joe Kelly and Plute- Joe Kelly was the nickname for Michael Joseph Christian, son of Patrick J. Christian and Margaret Hardiman. He was born on May 14 1893.Plute was the nickname for Douglas Christian, son of John Parker Christian and Mary Jane Coolen. Douglas was born May 30 1875. Russell Christian and Blanch Mason abt. 1950-Charles Russell Christian was the son of Charles D. Christian (1867-1954) and Mary Ellen Reyno (1873-1947) who was born on Aug. 2, 1893 in Prospect. He married Blanch Mason daughter of George Mason and Lillian Mary Mason, and was born on Nov. 15 1896. Russell passed away in 1973, while Blanch passed away in 1993 at the age of 96. William H. Christian abt. 1922- Born on Nov 20 1863 in White's Lake, he was the son of Charles H. Christian and Susan Zwicker. William never married due to extreme asthma, and his own will. He died in White's Lake in 1929 at the age of 65.- contributed by Great Niece Jean Welsh
Edna (Christian) Choquette, Picture 1, Picture 2- Edna Christian was the daughter of Charles Christian and Mary Ann Benning. She was born in Prospect on January 15 1897, and she married a man by the last name of Choquette. Edna died on April 7, 1978 at the age of 81.- contributed by Bernard Duggan
May (Perrier) Christian with Bernard and Margaurite Duggan- May Perrier Christian was the wife of James Oswald Christian. She was born in 1887, and died in Prospect in 1989, at the age of 102. Edna (Christian) Gray and Friend-This picture shows the late Edna Christian Gray who was the daughter of James Oswald Christian and May Perrier. She married Norman Gray, and they lived in Prospect. He married Annie Cecelia Coolen daughter of Joseph Coolen and Ann Hearn in abt. 1909. They had seven children. Samuel Christian and Johanna Purcell- Samuel Christian was born on October 7, 1845 in Prospect the son of Edward Christian and Frances White. He married Johanna Purcell the daughter of Thomas Purcell and Johanna Power and she was born on Feb 16 1849. Both were still living in 1903. Catherine (Christian) Hardiman- Catherine Christian was born on August 28 1846 in Prospect, the daughter of Edward Christian and Frances White. She married Samuel B. Hardiman s/o Edward Hardiman and Anastatia Brennan on January 21 1867. They had nine children. Catherine died in 1935. Contributed by Jean and Anna Hardiman (grand daughters)

in 1900 Ellen Marguerite Christian. George Bernard Christian is
probably
the only person from Prospect to be able to
claim that he sailed around
the world twice. At one time he was a sailor, but he also traveled all

John Owen Kiley-John Owen was the son of John Kiley and Dorothy Duggan, he was born in 1931 and died in 1990. He married Margaret M. Christian on September 14, 1957 and she was born in 1938 and also passed away in 1990.
John Sr. and Dorothy Kiley-John Kiley was born in 1893 and died in 1975. He married Dorothy Duggan who was born in 1894 and died in 1976. They had the following children: Bernard, John Owen, Gyrth and Edward.
Jerome Kiley and wife Mary Alice Meehan- Jerome Kiley was born Jul 18 1896 in Prospect to John Kiley and Mary Catherine Merlin, he died Mar 7 1976 in Halifax. Jerome married Mary Alice Meehan, born Feb 26 1897 in Prospect and died in 1978, she was the daughter of Reginald Meehan and Anastasia Hardiman. They were married on Oct 28 1920 in Prospect and had six children. This picture was taken in 1959 at thier house in Prospect.- contributed by Colin Kiley (grandson).
Carl Kiley and Bruce Scott- Carl Kiley was the son of Sherman Kiley and his wife Ethel Duggan. Carl was born in 1921, and married Rita Marie Scott, daughter of Charles Joseph Scott and Anastasia Gray. I don't have any information n Bruce Scott other than he is still living, so I won't post any information about him. Carl died on February 8 1976 at the age of 55.- contrbuted by Bernard Duggan

Regina Noonan-The daughter of Dennis Noonan and Johanna Duggan, Regina was born in 1879 and died sometime before 1949. She married Charles Sumner Christian on Dec 11 1899, in Prospect and had seven children.- contributed by Olive (Christian) Ryan
Dennis Noonan- Dennis Noonan was the son of Dennis Noonan and Mary Fagan. He was married two times over the course of his life. His first wife and my third great grandmother was Johanna Duggan (daughter of John Duggan (1812-1870) and Ann White (1812-?)). They had three children. Johanna died before 1887. Dennis then married Catherine Jane Callahan. Jane Callahan was married twice before that to William Mullins (mar. Aug. 28 1859), and John Beck (mar. Catherine (Noonan) Christian- Catherine Noonan was born February 21 1846 in Prospect, the daughter of Dennis Noonan and Mary Fagan. She married John D. Christian s/o John Christian and Elizabeth White on October 18 1875 at OLMC. They had five children. Catherine died on August 31 1916 in Prospect. Annie (Meehan) Duggan) and Ada Duggan- Annie Meehan (left) was the d/o Samuel Meehan (1856-1926) and Emma Doherty (1856-1931), she was born on Aug. 14 1881, and died 1964. She married Lawrence Sydney Duggan, and they had a daughter Ada (middle). The other women we think is Annie sister Hilda. This photo was taken July 15, 1929. contributed by Michael Duggan

Michael White and Catherine Kervin- Michael White was the son of Stephen James White and Margaret Power. Born Oct. 14 1843, and dying on Oct. 19, 1909 he married Catherine Kervin on Jun 29 1867 at Prospect. Catherine was born on Sep. 6 1856 and died on May 10 1906. Margaret Power -Margaret Power was the wife of Stephen James White. She was born in 1815 and died Oct. 29 1900. She married Stephen White in Nov. 1842 at Prospect. Margaret Hardiman- Margaret Hardiman was the daughter of Samuel Hardiman and Mary Duggan. She was born Aug 5 1849, in Prospect, and died sometime after 1903. She married Patrick Christian s/o John Christian and Elizabeth White, on Oct 16 1876 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They had six children.- contributed by Jacquelin O'Laughlin (great-niece)
Frances Hardiman- Frances Hardiman was born on May 29 1881 in Prospect, the daughter of Samuel B. Hardiman and Catherine Christian. She never married and died at the young age of 27 in July 1908. Contributed by Jean and Anna Hardiman (Nieces).
Henry Joseph Hardiman- Joe Hardiman was the son of Samuel B. Hardiman and Catherine Christian. He was born on December 15 1888 in Prospect. He married Ellen Marguerite Christian daughter of George Bernard Christian and Catherine Malinda Hamm on November 22, 1920 in Prospect. They had eight children. Joseph Hardiman died at the age of 85 on April 13 1974 in Prospect. Contributed by Jean and Anna Hardiman (daughters)
Samuel B. Hardiman and Catherine Christian- Samuel B. Hardiman was the son of Edward Hardimand and Anastatia Brennan. Born on February 11 1841 in Prospect. He married Catherine Christian daughter of Edward Christian and Frances White, on January 21 1967 in Prospect. They had nine children. Sam and Catherine live to old age and both died at the age of 88. Samuel died in 1929, and Catherine died in 1935. Contributed by Jean and Anna Hardiman (granddaughters)

(Knickle) Beck Hardiman - Born in Lunenburg County in 1864,
Ella married a gentleman by the name of Isaiah Beck in 1879. Ella and
Isaiah had 4
children. IN 1895 Ella Knickle marries John H.
Hardiman of Prospect after the death of his first wife Margaret
Griffin. John H. Hardiman and Ella Knickle go on
to have six more children, making the total number
of brother and sisters, and half brothers and sisters to 10. Ella died
in 1930.

Percival "Perse" Beck and George Coolen Sr.-This picture was taken in 1951 at the wedding of George Coolen Sr. second eldest son Weldon Coolen to Kathleen Doherty. Percival Beck was Kathleen Doherty's uncle. George Coolen Sr. was born on Apr 22, 1903 and died on March 22, 1972 he was the son of John Clement Coolen and Clarise Merlin. Percival Beck was the son of Thomas Beck and Clemence Christian, he was born April 8, 1906 and he died on April 24, 1982.Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
Everett "Tud" Christian, Joseph Doherty and Lou White- Everett Christian was known around the village as Tud, he was the son of Patrick W. Christian and Susan Johnson, he was born on Jan 15, 1880. Joseph Doherty was the son of Peter Doherty and Mary Anne Fawson, he was born November 3, 1861 and died on Feb. 21, 1837. Lou White was the son of Joseph White and Ellen Hardiman, he was born in 1889 and died on Oct. 16, 1872. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen
Billy Smith-Born William Smith he was born in 1858. Billy was the oldest person to live in Prospect. He died in 1959 at the age of 101. When the church got a bell he was in charge of ringing it and he rang the bell everyday until he died. Contributed by Kathleen Coolen

Jack "Old-Spike" Shea, Hattie Shea, Charlie "Wee-wee" Christian and Olive Christian?- I don't know much about Old Spike Shea and Hattie Shea. Charlie "Wee-wee" Christian was the son of N.P. Christian and Margaret McGuire. He was born on May 7, 1875 and died in 1949, he married Elizabeth Regina Noonan daughter of Dennis Noonan and Johanna Duggan. Olive Christian is their daughter. They had 13 children. Hardiman (1855) on Apr 30 1895, at Prospect. Kate Coppin (standing left) was the d/o David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire, born Mar 7 1870, she married James O. Hardiman. Bess Hardiman (sitting on ground) was her daughter. Dot Christian (standing right) was the daughter of James H. Hardiman and Ellen Knickle, she married Herbert John Christian.

Catherine Merlin was the d/o Jerome Merlin (1825-aft 1901) and Elizabeth Coolen (1829-aft 1901), she was born Apr 15 1853, and died Feb. 8 1930. Sister Anne Maria Barber- Born Mary Barber on the March 17, 1864, she was the daughter of James Matthew Barber and Mary Anne Power. She grew up in Prospect and was taught by the Sisters of Charity who opened their convent in Prospect in 1876. On August 20 1892 she joined the Sisters of Charity and became Sister Anne Maria Barber. Sister was the art teacher at the Mount from 1892 until 1928, with the exception of one year when she studied in Italy. Sister painted many pictures that hung in the Mount as well as designed all the stained glass windows for the building. Sister Anne Maria is also responsible for the design of the habit that the Sisters of Charity wore. They changed the design of thier habit from the balck cap to a coif and veil. Sister Anne Maria died at the age of 93 years on Dec 5, 1957 at St. Mary's Convent in Halifax.
