Charlotte Elizabeth Coppin was born on December 12, 1872 in Prospect, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. She was baptized at St. Mary's Basilica in Halifax on December 19, 1872. At the age of 27 she married Joseph Peter Doherty s/o of Peter Doherty and Mary Ann Fawson of Prospect on November 26, 1900 in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Prospect, Halifax County, Nova Scotia.

Joseph Doherty and Elizabeth Coppin had the following children:

Bernard Doherty- June 28, 1902
Joseph Peter Doherty- June 29, 1904
Paul Doherty- June 28, 1905 (lived a few hours)
David Owen Doherty- March 28, 1907
? Doherty- September 10 1910 (stillborn)
? Doherty- September 14, 1914 (stillborn)

Joseph Doherty was a fisherman as well as the mail coach driver for Prospect. As the son of Peter Doherty he inherited the house that the Doherty family lived in shown below:

Only Three of their six children lived to adulthood, and then only two of their sons lived to marry and have children. Joseph Doherty died sometime in the 1920's.  Their two other sons Bernard and David moved to Boston to pursue career's, but David returned to take care of his sick father, or at least that's how the story goes.  Joseph Doherty died February 21, 1937 at the age of 75, leaving Elizabeth to live on her own. His obituary reads:

JOSEPH P. DOHERTY

The death occurred yesterday at his home at Upper Prospect of Joseph P. Doherty, a well known resident of the district in his seventy fifty year. Mr. Doherty was a prominent fish merchant and through his business connections had many friends throughout the city and county who will learn with regret of his passing.
    He is survived besides his wife. by two sons, and two sisters. The funeral will be held at Upper Prospect on Wednesday.

Elizabeth lived for many years after the passing of Joseph. She died on May 27, 1961 at her home in Prospect.
