May Lauretta Coppin was born on May 5 1875, in Prospect, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. She was the seventh daughter of David Coppin and Elizabeth McGuire. On April 19 1904 she married James Alexander Ross son of James Ross and Hannah Richardson. They had two children:

Harold James Ross- b. October 27 1905
Margaret Louise Ross- b. November 7 1909- d. March 3 1986

Alexander James Ross of A. J. Ross was a photographer and owned a studio in downtown Halifax. They took lots of pictures and I have been fortunate enough to view a lot of them. Their grandson James Ross is the owner of their collection, and I think him for the majority of pictures of this COPPIN family.

The Ross family spent a large portion of their lives at a house called Burnside on Dutch village Road at the North West Arm of Halifax.

Their daughter Margaret Louise never married. Alexander James Ross died on December 5, 1950 in Halifax. May Lauretta (Coppin) Power died on October 26 1948. Here is her obituary:

Mrs. May Lauretta Ross, wife of James A. Ross of Halifax passed away suddenly yesterday morning at her home, 4 Garden Street. She was for many years a devout member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church and a faithful member of the Alter Society of the church. Surviving, besides her husband are a son Harold J., of Halifax: three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Doherty, Prospect, and Miss Louise Coppin, and Mrs. P. J. Power of Halifax. A grandson, James, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral will be held Friday morning in time for nine o'clock mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

May's father David Coppin died at Burnside in 1918. The house they lived in at 4 Garden street still stands on a beautiful treed street in the West End of Halifax.
